hehe, I was just about to post this question here
I, too, would like to know if this will work on Linux...

I bought the card, then started to build the knoppmyth computer.
I guess I'll be the guinea pig here.
I tried linux once with limited success about 1 year ago. I am extremely green, so any help is appreciated.
I watched the Systm episode, which seems to be a really good video tutorial.
My first question: Which of these settings in appropriate?
MPEG-2 encoder card
DVB DTV capture card
pcHDTV DTV capture card (w/V4L drivers)
Box says it will record in MPEG-1/2 and Divx.
If it makes any difference, I only have the expanded cable package (not digital or HD packages)
Thank you

Probably that one, as most of the other HD cards (even the PCHD3000) use it. But there's no telling, really, unless you or someone gets it working.

Thank you. That is what I would have guessed.
I'm planning to have the computer built this weekend. However, it has given me trouble in the past.
I friend gave me a link for a good barebones deal. If I need to order that, I'll have to wait for shipping.

So... I installed KM earlier and have had 0 success.
(Was very sad to find out that the "free tivo" isn't free anymore, since Zap2it stopped its services, but I digress)
The point of this post is that the Pinnacle card worked on Windows. The major drawback was manually entering the frequencies for channels 14-65.
For KM, I am having trouble selecting card type.
I tried "DBV DTV capture card (v3.x)" but Myth says "Frontend ID: Could not open card #0Subtype: No s". Same is true when changing DVB Card Number (#0-7).
Here are the options and their results:
=========
Analog V4L
Probed info: Unknown/Generic [cx8800]
=========
MJPEG
Probed info: Unknown/Generic [cx8800]
=========
MPEG-2
Probed info: Failed to open
=========
DVB DTV
Frontend ID: Could not open card #_Subtype: No s
=========
pcHDTV DTV
Unknown/Generic [cx8800]
=========
I believe the other 6 options are for external devices, so they would not be applicable.
There may be other settings which could provide different results, or this card may not function under linux...
Any suggestions? Thank you.

also, I noted during boot a message to the effect that the cx88-dvb.ko module couldn't be loaded (or was missing??? it went by too fast, and I couldn't find the message in any of the log files)
Anyone have a suggestion? I think if we could find the right info to pass to the cx88 driver, it might be possible to get this card running.
Update: I've temporarily installed the card in my widows box... card works well. Anyone know how I might get the relevant info from the windows files to help set up in the mythbox?
Update 2: Apparently...
http://www.linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/P ... %28800i%29
the card is not yet supported. We'll have to keep messing with it...

I would guess I'm a moderately skilled Windows user, but an absolute n00b at Linux. (i.e. I have no idea where you copied that log file from.)
The card is still very new, so I doubt the Linux support will come before next year. Still, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

The card has support in mercurial at this address:
http://linuxtv.org/hg/~stoth/v4l-dvb/
I haven't been able to get it to compile though. This is the error log I get when I run make. Anyone here have any ideas?

Yeah, you need to disable all the webcam options under 'make menuconfig' ... there's a bunch of 'em. Not sure which one stk-webcam is a part of, but that was the only way I could get it to compile.
I couldn't get that driver to work (video stuttered ridiculously on my PVR-150) so I had to roll back, but they seem to fix things on there within a couple days, so I'd try again in a little while if you have the same problem.
EDIT: Specifically, you just need to deselect the Syntel Webcam. Also, you'll probably run into some compile errors in videodev.c. Take a look here for a patch: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=17502

Thanks.
Since my other card is a pvr150, I'll probably wait a bit before I change the drivers.

Has anybody by chance gotten this to work yet? I still can't get it to compile, and I'm not even sure I have the firmware in the right place (it's currently /lib/firmware/dvb-fe-xc5000-1.1.fw)

Now that R5.5 is out, has anyone had any luck with this card? I've actually gotten it to recognize it as a Pinnacle card, finally, but I can't get it to actually tune any channels.

I am curious to know if anyone is using this card successfully under R5.5. I just bought one on woot.com today for 20$. I see that it is supported in the kernel as of 2.6.25 and recent versions of v4l-dvb. Hopefully it works, we shall see.
