I am curious to know if anyone is using this card successfully under R5.5. I just bought one on woot.com today for 20$. I see that it is supported in the kernel as of 2.6.25 and recent versions of v4l-dvb. Hopefully it works, we shall see.

Not sure, but I ordered 2 of them so it looks like we're in this together! You can find V4L support info for this card at "http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Pinnacle_PCTV_HD_Card_(800i)"

It it doesn't work out of the box, I'm hoping that a simple upgrade to the latest V4L drivers will solve it. That worked for me for the HVR-950. I've posted instruction on how to do this upgrade here, but you'll need to get the firmware from "http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Pinnacle_PCTV_HD_Card_(800i)#Firmware]".

This card appears to work for both ATSC and clear QAM. It does require that you install firmware and more recent V4L driver -- instructions are now in the wiki.

I've also got the remote working -- I'll add instructions for that this weekend.

Just curious -- is anyone else using this card? It looks like a was a good deal at $20 from woot...

Thanks for this info marc! I have been on vacation and have not had a chance to try the card out yet. I'll give this a shot when I get home. Thanks again!

On the wiki it says
Quote:
download the file "dvb-fe-xc5000-1.1.fw", which is attached to this page

but I can't find the file on the page. Am I blind?

EDIT: Why yes I was blind at the bottom of the page is the word Attachments

Don't worry Matt, I spent half an hour trying to figure it out this weekend ;-) Thanks for these great directions Marc! I tried to get this card working a while ago, and kept running into problems with it. With your directions, I was able to get it running perfectly last weekend!

I've got my card working ATSC thanks to the wiki article!!! Thanks so much!!!

But I don't have audio on the analog NTSC side... any pointers? I've searched quite a bit but references seem to point to BT878 type stuff from older Pinnacle cards...

Why do I need analog? One of the bestest channels for my town is not going digital (staying as a low power analog station)... will need NTSC just for that...

Thanks!

I can't get the card to work on NTSC cable. After toying around with ATSC over the air for about a week I gave up and got busy with other stuff for a while. This week I tried setting the card up to just tune cable NTSC channels but I can't get it to work. In the Settup screen I can Search for channels and find every single one. When I go to mythtv I get a dialog box saying that the tuner has timed out and a black screen. Any ideas?

Don't know for sure if this would help you, you might have even done this already... but I've found I get best results when making changes to any of the capture cards by deleting them all (I click on "delete all from myth" and "delete all" a couple times each, and start from scratch... mythfilldatabase once everything's done again.
Also, for NTSC you should NOT be scanning for channels in setup... only for ATSC tuners (this might actually be your issue, I think I've read somewhere that scanning for analog channels will actually cause a mess with tuning or something). Leave the analog ones with their SchedulesDirect info only... the "Retrieve lineup" button actually works for analog so you can just pick a starting channel once you retrieve the lineup, whereas you'll notice "Retrieve lineup" does not pull in any channels for digital, hence the scan is necessary for those.

HTH

BTW, I still can't get audio in analog... I'm actually a bit worse now, cause once I set up the dsp1 and dsp2 needed for the analog audio, I can't even get to just see video since it kicks me out when trying to watch...
