I was installing roms for mame on a good working setup I've been running for a couple of weeks (since R4V4 came out) on my new PVR250. Never touched the keyboard on it as the remote works good. Well, you have to type "OK" to get the mame games to start and I found the keyboard wasn't working.

So I figured it might have come loose, no problem... I reboot and the keyboard works fine. To make a long story short. The keyboard stops when the frontend starts.

I use Linux as a server normally (SSH is my friend) and haven't a clue how to debug XFree86 which I assume to be the problem. Is the remote taking over as the keyboard?

Thanks,
Dave

I've got both working at the same time so that shouldn't be it. Take a look at my XF86Config-4 under the Tier 2 topic. I'm even using a wireless keyboard and ocassionally need to tickle the basestation and keyboard/mouse to remind them of each others presence when they lose sync but otherwise I use thekeyboard almost every day without problems.

You know you can configure MythGame so you don't have to press 'OK'. Setup -> MythGames it is on the third page, "Show disclaimer".

Yes, I tried that. It didn't work earlier, now it doesn't ask. quite odd because it was still asking after I checked the box to not bother me with that. No matter its not bothering me any more.

I found out how to make the keyboard work. I get no keyboard on boot untill I go in and watch live tv then exit. I did that and noticed the num lock light was on. Sure enough the keyboard worked. After a couple of reboots due to crashes in xmame I've got that down perfect. seems only the b&w games are running right.

I'm running using the "tv" option on install using s-video out to an hd tv. Astroids looks great, glad I still love the game lol. I'll do some poking around on the xmame thing and see whats up with it. It might not like the Xfree86 config or something.

I get blue banding of randome looking graphics entering any game I've tried that is color. Frogger is one I remember trying. That should not be to high a rez game for the current setup I wouldn't think.

I've used "killall --KILL XFree86" to kill the gui before. That is probably not the proper way but it normally gives me a nice restart of the front end. Linux is so stable I'm not used to dealing with crashes LOL. In this case though, it doesn't seem to work. xmame won't die and I'm forced to reboot.
