I know this is an issue that has been talked about many many many times, however I cannot get my playback to look even decent. I was watching Conan O'brien last night and you barely see the guy eyes, all you see is two little dots, thats how blurry it is.

I have a NVIDIA GeForce 5200 connected to the TV via VGA cable.

Here's what i've done so far:

1) Changed to the Bob 2X deinterlacing filter
2) Changed the playback and the recording to both be at 720x480

It did improve a bit but only the motion of the images on the screen and not the image quality itself, that did not change at all, it is still blurry. I read some post claiming that the "Flicker Filter" in the nvidia-settings neets to be set from 128 to 1, however I do not have that setting since I am connecting to the TV using the VGA cable.

Does anybody have any ideas to sharpen the picture? I cannot believe how bad it looks. The quality is worst than a VCR. I've even thought of going back to reccording with my VCR. :?

Are you running your 250 to an HD panel? I run a 500 thru HD LCD and had to crank the heck out of the thing to get it to look ok. I just about max it out!

Did you look at this?

Have you tried playing back a dvd to see if it looks OK?

This will tell us if it is on the playback side or the recording side.

Have you tried increasing the bitrate in the recording profile? I usually experiment with the low quality to high quality profiles and make short recordings of each setting to see where I want my recording bitrates set.

Low Quality?
High quality?

I honestly read it, and re-read it again right now. But I can't find the part that says "live TV uses so and so recording profile"

Live TV uses the recording profile called "Live TV". All other recordings use the one called "Default" unless you specifically pick something different. Frankly this doesn't seem terribly confusing.

It doesn't matter which one you play with as long as you select that profile when you set up your test recording.
