Post subject:  Satilite Receivers and Mythtv

Hi There,

Sorry for the ingorance, but I have always used cable TV before. I am looking at switching to DishNetwork or DirectTV from cable. I was wondering what Satilite "receivers" were supported by KnoppMyth?

I know these receivers are available from DishNetwork
vip722
vip622
vip625
vip612
vip322
vip311

DirectTV
H20

Any point in the right direction would be much appriciated.

Thanks,

Paul

There is an entry in myth documentation about controlling the DirectTV box, however I am not sure if those ports are still enabled.

As far as I know with dishnetwork, you need an irblaster to control them.

I have 2 Dish Network 311's and a Dish Network 322.
All are controlled by IR Blasters on PVR-150 or Serial Blaster on a PVR500

The Dish 322 is a dual output device allowing 2 channels to 2 separate TV's/PVR's once caveat however on the 322 the second remote control is a UHF controller for whole house wiring. I cannot control that one automatically.

I have it on my second tuner/Component inout to my PVR 500.
I use that two ways. One if it is using my SD lineup as a source I can manually tune that side of the dish with the programming in the dish box.
The other way I use it is feed through a VCR, and use it as a manual tuner, to transfer tapes or if I need a 4th tuner for some special event just run it that way with manual record scripts.

The 311 and 322 are SD TV as is the VIP625.

The VIP 722, 622 and 612 are all HD receivers and DVR's.
The 722 and 622 offer a component HD output. Not sure about the 612.

Today there may not be a way to Capture HD content in the Linux environment.
However, Hauppauge has just released a new capture box that can capture Component video. My guess it is only a matter of time before the Linux community has drivers for that box.

I'm also using a dish 301 to a PVR150, and I control it with a homebrew IR blaster (serial port). Works great.

I also have an HD5500 to capture HD over the air. Here in Atlanta I get 8 or 9 digital stations OTA.
