Post subject: | HDHomeRun problems with Live TV |
I setup the HDHomeRun. It seemed to scan and find channels. However, when I click on Watch TV, it blanks for a couple of seconds and then goes back to the main menu. I know the HDHomeRun works, because it scans and finds channels and also when I boot to Windows, I can use it. Any suggestions? I'll be glad to provide extra info, but since I'm new to Myth, I'm not sure what else to include at this point. Thanks! |

My HDHomerun did that when the station was "off the air". Perhaps you could verify that it is trying to tune to a valid channel. One way would be to use the "HDHomeRun Config GUI" from silicondust.com. |

The stations were definitely not off air. I could see them on my TV when I plug the antenna directly into it. In any case, these particular channels never go off air. I don't see a config GUI for Linux. All I see is the command line config..."hdhomerun device 10135D63 found at 192.168.0.14". I've also tried FFFFFFFF when I configure it in the MythTV setup. It says that all F's is a wild card that can be used if there is only one HDHomeRun on the network....but again, I have tried the actual ID too. If I'm just blind and don't see the GUI download, I would appreciate it if someone could point me to it. I was able to locate the Windows GUI, and that works fine, but I'm a little big green when it comes to Linux, so I'm probably doing something wrong. Can I send a config file of some sort for someone to look at? I'm desperate. Thanks! |

You say it will not show "live tv" but will it record a show? Can you view anything, such as sd cards? This will lead us to a recording or a viewing problem. Take a look at /var/log/mythtv/mythfrontend.log and mythfrontend.log at the time you are starting the live tv. (FYI, in case you don't know, the backend's recording it and the frontend's playing it.) I have a HDHomerun split between qam cable and antenna for off-air. Work great. Once you work through this you'll love it. |

It could be a problem with signal strength. My HDHR is nowhere near my TV's or boxes. So, a splitter to divert coax to the HDHR, and another splitter for each of the inputs, equals greatly reduced signal strength. If this is your problem even a cheap amplifier should help. |

He did say "it scans and finds channels". That's the part I can't figure out. You would think it could play the channels it found. |

I'm using a MSI Nvidia Gforce NX8500GT with a Dell flat panel monitor (DVI) and my Samsung LCD TV (HDMI). The motherboard is GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L with the Intel Q6700 quad core CPU. I just ripped out everything out of the PCI slots and all I have in there right now is my video card and I'm using the HD Homerun. I even reformatted and re-installed....and even removed all the SATA drives and slapped an IDE drive in and installed to that. Wow. Lost of important stuff missing. Take a look here http://www.knoppmythwiki.org/index.php?page=NvidiaSetup There's a lot of info for older versions of knoppmyth, but good for setting up Nvidia. davidstoll What KM version are you using? Use Alt+S to enter backend setup. don't care if backend is running chose Continue >>Input Connections>> select one of your HDHR tuners Do you have a starting channel set? for both tuners? Also I have never been successfully with FFFFFFFF use your device settings. TVBox I'm using R5F27 and also MythBuntu 8.04 I do have starting channels for all tuners. I have now found that if I reboot, I have to exit the front end and then run the backend setup. I don't actually have to edit anything. All I have to do is exit the backend setup and allow it to run the mythfilldatabase. Then re-run the front end...wammo, I've got live TV. As soon as I reboot, I have to do it all over again. One more question, what QAM do I use for my analog Comcast cable. When it scans, it seems to pick up some stuff, but it doesn't quite seem right. Changing inputs from "over the air" (homerun 0) to "cable" (homerun 1) takes more than 10 seconds. Sometimes it even crashes the front end. Thanks again guys! |

R5F27 is MythTV 0.20.2 I presume MythBuntu 8.04 is MythTV 0.21 like Ubuntu 8.04 is. These two versions of MythTV are incompatible and I understand that simply running a 0.21 frontend on a MythTV 0.20.2 backend will cause the BE some problems when it tries to update the database to 0.21. If you want to run MythBuntu with R5F27 you should run the 7.10 MythBuntu and avoid letting it upgrade from 0.20.2 to 0.21. Cliff |

I am running them on the same machine...separately....to see what I can get to work most easily. I'm not trying to get the two versions to communicate. |
