So right now I am pretty content with my power management: autoshutdown when idle, auto-on when recording, WakeOnLAN for remote access, etc.

However, that was when I was the only one using my mythbox. Now I'm living with a less techy person. So I am looking for a way to turn on the system via remote.

I currently have the Hauppage "Dogbone" and IR receiver. So I imagine there is no way to turn on the pc with that, given my mobo only supports PS2, LAN, or USB wakeup.

So anyone have any recommendations on how to best do this? I found a couple threads at other sites, (ref 1) and (ref 2) but the responses were scattered with seemingly few successes. I've also seen a neat hardware DIY kit to do such things. But no reviews.

Any help is appreciated!

I didn't see any info on Linux there... LIRC drivers would be needed to
get it working with MythTV.

On the other hand, if you can get that hardware DIY kit to just power
it on and don't bother actually receiving any codes with it once booted
up, you have solved your problem too.....

Another way would be to get a Bluetooth or IR or RF keyboard (one that
plugs in the PS2 port?) and enable wake on keyboard. I don't personally
use such a keyboard, but I have seen posts this year with people saying
how happy they were with the small wireless keyboard to control MythTV.

if you go this route, a keyboard IR reciever should be able to catch a button press from a remote (if configured correctly...learning remote) , no?
