Ive seen a few questions about interlacing on the forums before, but not specificly addressing my problem. If there is, sorry but i missed it I guess, could i get a link to it?


Ok, as for my question, or series of. I've got everything working how I want pretty much, and now for the Fine Tuning. I've got a 1.7Ghz P3 with a NVidia GeForce4 4200 TI. The TV Out, in my opinion, looks pretty decent. So does the RTJPEG encoding (which i do on a BT878 based chip, the Hauppage WinTVGo model190).

The thing I'd like to fix is the Interlacing problems. It's set to de-interlace which is all fine and dandy for a progressive screen like my monitor, but i think since it was originally interlaced, if i could get it interlaced again when it's output to my TV it would be very nice. Then i dont believe it would be choppy when a scene moves hoizonyally.

so finally for my questions:
1) Is It possible to re-interlace the image WHILE keeping the lines in line with the lines on the TV? (It seems like the TV-Out would need to overscan just like the broadcast sent it in)

2) IS there some other filter that would have the same effect?

First thing, you'd have to use the new nvidia drivers (check the Linux->General forum for details).... they're the first ones that support interlaced modes.

Second, you'll have to run 640x480 on your TV out... I believe that running at any higher resolution will scale the picture, and thus effectively destroy the interlaced fields.

I don't think overscan will affect interlacing... it just takes the 640x480 image and zooms it larger or smaller to get a better fit on your TV screen.

Just noticed one more thing about your setup... I'm not sure if RTJPEG preserves interlacing, or whether that WinTVGo grabs images as interlaced. I know the PVR-250 and -350 encode interlaced MPEG2 files.
