I am using a Samsung 160GB HD (one of the quietest around), but Linux reports that it uses LBA32 and reduces the size of hda4 (/myth) to 137GB.

Is there a way to enable LBA48?

that is a bios limitation. not a linux limitation. you will need to see if your mb has a bios update to fix it or you will just have to get a new mb or add in card, but the add in cards don't play well with knoppmyth.
