Hi Folks, strange problem with volume control. The [ and ] keys change the osd, but the volume stays the same. If alsamixer is open, I can see it's PCM volume go up and down. If I run the osd volume all the way down to none, the sound cuts out at that point. Similarly, if I change the Master or PCM volume in alsamixer, the sound volume still stays the same. I even tried ivtvctl -y volume=nnnnn and ivtvctl -y mute=x still with no change in volume. Sound is perect in all other respects. Maybe this is a problem with the ck98m patched ivtv? I need a patched ivtv to handle the PCR250 MCE rev2 microtune FM4049 tuner card. Any ideas? Thanks JohnO |

No comments... anyone? It's the onboard 7NIF2 Nforce2 sound hardware. Maybe I should update the relevant drivers? How would I go about doing that? Cheers, JohnO |

Same problem here. Docs say that the PVR-250 passes through audio data to my SB Audigy2 on the 'wave' channel. Indeed, adjusting that channel in alsamixer affects volume. Hoewver, I cannot seem to configure MythTV such that the volume interface controls the wave channel on my SB. Additionally, AC3 passthrough works great for digital music and for DVDs -- there's a cable directly connecting the SPID out on the DVD-rom drive to the SB. But no sound in TV. One more sound related quickie... some DVDs have to be turned up to about twice the volume in order to obtain normal listening levels. Seems to be only those DVDs recorded in Dolby DTS. btw, the same is true regardless of whether I use the digital or analog output jacks on the SB. |

My frontend is an NF2 chipset as well, and I've noticed the same thing. I'm running solely the SPDIF out, and I can't seem to control it from Myth any way I've tried so far. as an aside, has anyone seen a "Dynamic Range Compression" plugin that could be used with Myth? Would be nice to quiet those louder spots without jumping for the Amp remote. |

must be the spdif out then, because I have the same board and have always used the onboard sound with pvr250 and no issues. I have not however attempted spdif or any sort of digital output. |

I'm running SPDIF on an NF2 motherboard, but quite honestly I change the volume with my amp. I'll see what happens if I change volume with the remote instead. |

I have a chaintech 7NIF2 which doesn't have an SPDIF connector on the board so I'm just using the line-out. I have the same problem. Adrian |

adrianbc are you trying to control the volume from within mythtv? With the default settings on an a 7nif2 it should just work. Have you done anything to the sound subsystem (alsa) that might have broken something? |

Have they changed the sound chips on the MoBo? Time for more details, I'd suggest checking the versions or revisions on your motherboard and the sound chips on them... Another possiblity that occurs to me is that the SPDIF may be treated as a flat line out for some reason. There's an issue like this with some of the Intel chipsets (the PCM channel only has two "volume" levels, on and off) but not as far as I know with the NVidia. |

The audigy 2 cards use the wave settings in alsamixer. I can get this to work, but changing the master or pcm mix does nothing to my volume. Does anyone have a possible suggestion on how to configure this to work in lirc/grey remote? The real big issue I see is that with the wav controls, there are the following that work with the audigy2: wave wave center wave lfe wave surround I haven't found one of the channels in alsamixer that reduces all of the channels listed above. Is it possible to write a script that would lower/raise all of the channels and then run this script when you hit the up/down volume? |

I just got a chaintech 7NIF2 (no SPDIF) and it seems to work fine, but I also have no volume control. Also, the board claims to have 6 channel audio but only has that one mini-phono jack for output... how does one get the other channels? A special cable? Decoder box or something? |

The 7NIF2 used to have a connector on the motherboard, where you could order some backpanel part from Chaintech and get an optical audio out. If your 7NIF2 is like my recently-purchased one, it no longer has the connector on the motherboard, although the space is still there and it's still mentioned in the manual. |
