Post subject: | new hardware setup -> need some advices |
Hi Guys Well, first of all, I fed up to fight against my small hardware (PII-400, 256 Megs Ram + PVR-250) My disk is dying, thus it is time for changes !!! I wonder is the following hardware will be well supported with knoppmyth : Motherboard : ASRock K7S41 (http://www.asrock.com/product/product_k7s41.htm) CPU : Athlon XP 2500+ Video Card : ASUS AGP GF4 V9180 440MX-8X 64M MAG OEM Memory : 512 Megs HD 200 Gb My main concern is about the compatibilty for the motherboard and the video card. I would like to run mythtv only on a single box. For sure too, I would like to be able to send the output to the television. Thanks in advance Yhan |

Only two ASRock motherboards show up in the PVR Hardware Database... guess you could see if they're comparable: http://pvrhw.goldfish.org/tiki-pvrhwdb.php |

I stared at the specs and didn't see any info on the chipset, this is the crucial factor. KnoppMyth is good about supporting the Nvidia nforce 2 chipsets. There are known issues with the Via chipset but there are also known work arounds. I don't remember seeing anything either way about the SiS chipsets. Aha! Newegg to the rescue. It looks like they're using the SiS chipset which puts it in the blank spot on my map. Search the forums and the PVR hardware database for SiS based motherboards. |

the pundit is the only system that I know of that has an sis chipset, and the only problem with it is the video, which can be fully enabled with a driver that can be gotten with a line in the sources.list file and an apt-get. From the looks of your setup that won't be a factor since you have the nvidia card anyways. That said I'm not familiar with all of the sis chipsets, but most of them work just fine, however I think I've heard some people having network issues with the newer releases and sis onboard networking. |
