Post subject:  Which video card for widescreen (16:9) output

I've been putting together a knoppmyth based systems which is going pretty well so far. I have run into one big problem however.

The video card I'm using is a Hercules Geforce 2ti. This is based on the
Crontel 7007 chipset. Even using nvtv I can't get a good overscanned picture. The only usable resolutions are 640x480 and 800x600. I've decided to look at replacing the gf2 with what looks like the de-facto standard (geforce 4 440mx).

What I want to know is this - are all 440mxs created equal?

Basically I want to be able to get a widescreen video mode on any new card that I buy.

Could anyone running in a widescreen resolution (720x400 for example) let me know what card they are using?

well like you said as far as svideo tvout on nvidia only 640x480 and 800x600 are supported, and they are not 16x9 resolutions, which in reality doesn't matter cause the tv capture is not really in 16x9 anyways. I have captured at many different resolutions and it all looks the same. I have a 16x9 tv and I just use the smoothwide option just like I do for regular tv. If you truely want a 16x9 you will need to go with a vga -> component converter or dvi, in which case it really won't matter what type of video card you have.
