I'm not seeing any tearing or issues so far.
I didn't do anything special to xorg.conf and my playback settings are set at the default version of CPU++ in R5.5.

That said I am watching UK freeview which is a DVB-T broadcast at standard definition so the workload will be a chunk less than what is being discussed around HDTV.

dave_p, thanks for getting back to me. I should have mentioned that I also see the tearing on the playback of standard def material, so I don't think it has anything to do with the level of CPU utilization.

I've purchased an MSI wind barebones from Fry's. This has the single-core Atom with Hyper threading; intel GMA950 graphics. It is capable of playing back 1080i and 720p mpeg2 recordings. I am seeing some occasional video tearing.

1. dave_p -- Are you seeing any tearing? Did you tweak your xorg.conf and what are you using for your mythtv playback settings?

2. I notice that the latest intel driver talks about improved TV playback. Can anyone summarize the steps required to build and install the latest intel drivers?

3. I've noticed that xorg.conf specifies driver "i810", but I've seen others state that its better to use driver "intel" in xorg.conf. Does anyone know the difference between these two?

Thanks!
2. apt-get update && apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel.
3. i810 and intel are one in the same.

That is so easy -- thank you very much for that info!

I recently tried the apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel and received the following error.....

The following packages have unmet dependencies:
xserver-xorg-video-intel: Depends: xserver-xorg-core (>= 2:1.5.99.901) but it is not going to be installed
E: Broken packages

I tried to update xserver-xorg-core, but it starts going down a rabbit hole, so to speak. I was wondering if there was any other work a rounds for the problem? Any help is appreciated.
Cheers
MG
