Nothing's ever easy, is it?

Added a 1TB drive to my R5.5 combo FE/BE, and tried to use these directions to get it formatted and mounted:

http://linux.justinhartman.com/Installi ... hard_drive

fdisk -l told me it was at /dev/sdb. I used cfdisk /dev/sdb to install one partition. fdisk seems to tell me this was successful (I left out results for /dev/sda which has my KnoppMyth install):

Code:
root@mbe:/home/ceenvee703# fdisk -l

Disk /dev/sdb: 1000.2 GB, 1000204886016 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 121601 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

   Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
/dev/sdb1               1      121601   976760001   83  Linux

Next step is to reformat, but this is what happens:

Code:
root@mbe:/home/ceenvee703# mkfs.ext3 /dev/sdb1
mke2fs 1.40.6 (09-Feb-2008)
Could not stat /dev/sdb1 --- No such file or directory

The device apparently does not exist; did you specify it correctly?

Any ideas? I searched for "could not stat" and didn't find any definitive answers. Thanks.

Grrr. Rebooting after using cfdisk seems to have done the trick. (They missed that little step...)
