I just got a digital cable box (Motorola DCT-2000) from Comcast, and unfortunately, the serial port is disabled, so I can't do serial channel changing. I even went in and exchanged for a new box, but it appears to be disabled on all boxes in my area.

I'd like to have MythTV control the cable box so I can record from my digital-only channels, so it seems as though my only recourse is an IR Blaster.

My question is this: I use an ATI Remote Wonder with the kernel drive (not LIRC). If I get a serial port IR Blaster, will this still function and allow Myth to control the box?

Will it be as easy as plugging in the blaster and then running
Code:
/usr/local/bin/irblaster.sh
to configure the irblasterd daemon?

Will I have problems because the lirc daemon is not installed on my box?
