I did an update on my LinHES system today R6 and then read about an update to the nvidia driver. I was previously using 180.40 beta so I did a pacman -S nvidia which uninstalled the beta and then installed 185. The problem is now that I can get X to start.

Some details: I have a 8400GS PCI-E card connected to a TV via Composite and the Xorg.0.log states:
Code:
(EE) NVIDIA(0): Failed to initialize the NVIDIA kernel module! Please ensure
(EE) NVIDIA(0):     that there is a supported NVIDIA GPU in this system, and
(EE) NVIDIA(0):     that the NVIDIA device files have been created properly.
(EE) NVIDIA(0):     Please consult the NVIDIA README for details.
(EE) NVIDIA(0):  *** Aborting ***
(II) UnloadModule: "nvidia"
(II) UnloadModule: "wfb"
(II) UnloadModule: "fb"
(EE) Screen(s) found, but none have a usable configuration.

Fatal server error:
no screens found

I have tried re-installed the driver using pacman, I have edited the Xorg.conf file to ensure all the TV out stuff is there, but for clarity it is:
Code:
# nvidia-xconfig: X configuration file generated by nvidia-xconfig
# nvidia-xconfig:  version 1.0  (buildmeister@builder63)  Thu Mar 19 00:38:36 PST 2009

# nvidia-settings: X configuration file generated by nvidia-settings
# nvidia-settings:  version 1.0  (buildmeister@builder63)  Thu Mar 19 00:39:33 PST 2009

It is with much regret that I found that I have found a solution, all whilst the Wife was sleeping (thank goodness). What I had neglected to do was upgrade the nvidia-utils in line with the nvidia driver, thus I was having a conflict of versions.

To combat this mistake I have created a flyspray NFR to ask that when you install the nvidia driver the corrosponding nvidia-utils be installed as a dependency. Well it makes sense to me as the nvidia driver is useless without the utils.

For those watching at home the flyspray NFR can be found at: http://www.linhes.org/flyspray/index.php?do=details&task_id=430
