I recently installed 4.4r1 and everything seems to be working fine on my office network. However when I take the box home and attempt to connect to my Westell DSL modem I am unable to connect. Any attempt to establish a DHCP connection results in a complete freeze. The only way I am even able to successfully boot the machine is to unplug the ethernet cable. Otherwise I get a NETDEV WATCHDOG error during startup and executing pump after startup results in a frozen machine also. Anybody had sucess connecting to BellSouth? Thanks, |

If you really want to do that which you don't then you will need to look at pppoe. |

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6323 is a great step by step how-to network with BellSouth's ADSL modems So while I dont know what the NETDEV Watchdog is I am now able to establish a DHCP connection. |

well that's nice, particularly if you really don't care about anything on the box. Like right now if you are connected anyone anywhere in the world can change your recording schedule. The default install of knoppmyth is not very secure and is designed to be behind a firewall. There has been much discussion about this the last time someone wanted pppoe on their knoppmyth box. |
