Just lost a HD on my SBE and was hoping to install to my usb flash drive. However I only have a free 1G and that isn't gonig to cut it.

I can buy an 8G stick pretty cheap, or should I go another route? Is the diskless ready for primetime?

Need to get this resolved soon... TIA

The only issue I have with diskless is sometimes it hangs for a while at a certain stage of booting. Pinging the IP from the backend seems to make it spring to life and continue the boot process. I would suggest you try the diskless route. One other problem you may encounter is not enough space on the root partition on your MBE (if that is where you put your SBE NFSroot)

If you want a smaller diskless MythTV distro, maybe take a look at Minimyth. The NFS version of MiniMyth is only about 100 megabytes. I'm testing it alongside the LinHES diskless-legacy package, with both booting off my LinHES MBE.

Apparently MiniMyth can function as a slave backend, but I haven't tried that.

I wasn't having success booting from the flash drive, might be my bios though. The install seemed to be fine with a 4G and no swap, just would hang on the 'initiating kernal' and get no further.

I've since installed an old IDE drive and am back up and running.
