Kinda off-topic I realize, wasn't certain where to post....

Hi all,

My Halloween inflatable was stolen recently and the house directly across from me was broken into etc etc so it's time to get a security camera (I already have a home security system). I am looking for a camera to simply point in front of my house. Wireless would be handy I suppose but I think I could run a cat5 cable if necessary. IR/night vision a definite plus. I have a spare Hauppauge 150 lying about that I could use to capture analog if necessary. I know nothing of this stuff so any advice greatly appreciated!

I am in the SF bay area, CA, USA & live near a Frys. I also have R6 running and it's cool!

ZM will work with just about any Axis camera.

Axis makes nice cameras but WOW, those prices!

I'm thinking of making CAT5 runs to my preferred camera locations and using video baluns to pipe the analog back to a central hub. From there I can digitize it and feed it into a ZM system. I can also run power out to the camera on the same CAT5.

I can use cheapie cams that way and a digitizer board that can handle 4 or 8 simultaneous cameras (i.e. separate digitizers per channel, not one digitizer shared by all cameras).

I was unable to get a camera to work on my pvr500, don't recall the reason but seem to remember that something wasn't supported. If someone knows differently, I'd sure like to know. Could be alot of 150/500's available cheap due to upgrades to digital. Better luck was had on an old TV Wonder VE and a Kworld 110.
What I learned is that the cameras work best at short distances and you should see this in the display cameras at Fry's. Unfortuantely quality costs.
