Post subject: | Problems with sound |
I am not getting sound when I watch TV. When I increase the volume on line-out, I get sound, but it is about 2 seconds ahead of the picture. The sound seems to be live and not after the capture. I have a Hauppauge WinTV PCI TV Tuner Card. I think it is a model 401. It has 610000-08 © 1998 on the card. I have a Sound Blaster 128 which gets recognized as a ENS1370. I have an ATI All-in-wonder Rage 128 as my Video card (I’ve given up on trying to use it for capture. I have connected the Line-Out from the WinTV card to the Line-In on the Sound Blaster. I have also tried using the internal CD audio connector. The audio capture is /dev/dsp What device should be used to play the after capture sound? How would I set it. Thank you for any help. Newton |

I am getting somewhere. I figured out how to use alsamixer! In my configuration Line-Out on the WinTV card is connected to Line-In on the Sound Blaster. I set the Master volumn to 71, Line-In to 71, and PCM to 71. I used the m key to mute or un-mute as needed. The space key to select Line-In as Capture. The problem that I have now is that I hear both pre-capture and capture. If I try to mute line-in, I loose sound. If I lower the sound of Line-in to about 24 and raise PCM to 100, its not too bad. I'm still looking for a solution. Thank you, Newton |

well sounds like you are in the right place, and you should be able to mute the linein as long as it is still set as the capture device, but I have heard many people having problems with the soundblaster 128 cards. |

"alsamixer" is the answer. "alsactl store" is also necessary. I then modified the /etc/init.d/Sound script. I commented out the line that set the volumn. I substituted it with "alsactl restore". KnoppMyth did not instal the alsa-util package. I downloaded the source, extracted it, ran "configure", and run "make". I then copied alsactl to the /usr/bin directory. I set the master volumn to about 70. I set the PCM volumn to about 0. Set line-in to about 70, selected capture with the space bar, and set mute. amixer is also part of the alsa-util package. It can be used to set up the sound card as well. But I decided that alsactl was easier. |

There is a mistake on the second paragraph. I set the PCM volumn to about 70 not 0. Sorry. |
