Post subject:  Where to set WEP settings?

I just did a ful manual install of R4V5. Evething was picked up correctly, and even the MA311 Netgear 802.11b card was picked up correctly. However, I need to enter a WEP key. Where would I do that?

/etc/network/interfaces doesn't have an entry for eth0, but iwconfig reports eth0 as being a wireless device with the correct chipset and all. I noticed there's an /etc/wlan directory, but I'm not sure it applies because it refers to device wlan0 and mine is eth0.

Any idea where I should change my WEP and general wireless settings?
Thanks!

well if you have a wlan file and there is no eth0 in /etc/network/interfaces are you sure your card is using eth0.

do ifconfig

and see what shows up.

the settings are supposed to be set in the /etc/network/interfaces file.

I have posted how to do this before.

ifconfig only shows lo

iwconfig shows lo and eth0. It has all the correct information (driver, etc), but no IP address listed. I'm using DHCP, but with WEP so I don't think it can pick up an IP until I enter the correct settings.

It's definitely listed as eth0 and not wlan.

Any idea what I need to do to configure it correctly?
Thanks!

I ran into that while playing with mythfrontend from cd boot on my laptop. Not sure what file to put put the command in as far as /etc goes. But the command to put in your wep key is iwconfig eth0 key "yourkey" without the quotes. That will set the wep key for eth0 and allow you to connect to your AP. Once you connect eth0 should show up with ifconfig. If you are doing dhcp do a pump -i eth0 after putting in your wep key. Good luck.
