Hey everyone. New to Myth. I have a computer sitting here that I'm hoping to make work with it. I'm looking forward to it. First off I'll list what I have. Then I have a few questions: Dual AthlonMP 2400+ 1GB RAM 1x 200gb HD 2x 80gb HD CD-RW DVD 1GB RAM SB Audigy Sound Matrox G450 Dual head video card. I am planning on getting a tv250 card or it to start. adding more after i have this stuff figured out. questions: will knoppmyth utilize the SMP from this machine? any forceable issues with the G450? noticed a guy on the last post was having issues with his g400. its pretty much the same thing. SB audigy issues? there are cheap tuner cards on tigerdirect. kworld and pennical. how well do those work? if knoppmyth will utilize the smp then i wouldnt imagine this machine having many problems with software encoding. especially not with 1gb ram. thanks for the help guys. i'm looking forward to all of this. devren |

1 GB of RAM is severe overkill. Dual processors are severe overkill. That many hard drives in an HTPC is severe overkill. I guess my point is that it would be a great backend box, but something lighter weight - cooler, quieter, smaller - would be better suited for the frontend. My idea of a perfect frontend: Barton core (any speed really... mobiles are preferable due to low voltage) 512MB PC3200 RAM Abit NF7-S version 2 (or the MN31N if you can find one - because matx is so sexy when coupled with soundstorm) GFFX 5200 (VGA + DVI + SVIDEO) 20 GB 7200RPM drive (5GB for OS, 1GB for var, rest for live TV) Intel gigabit network card (both in frontend and backend) Bigass heatsink and slow fan Then you would have a backend with an LVM of big hard drives, a lot of horsepower (dual xeons, mp's, opterons, etc) and several tuners, and a fast network connection. This gets the best of both worlds, a lot of flexibility, as well as a sleek and quiet box. |

The original hardware list is total overkill as already stated, and memory says that there are issues with the Audigy too. |
