sorry if this is a dumb question but what are the hardware requirements for knoppmyth? i have no linux experence whatsoever, i was considering buying a tivo and installing a bigger drive, but when i say sceenshots of mythtv, and read what it could do, i was sold, it just seem amazing! ok here is what i have to work with asus motherboard (onboard vid and sound) celeron 1.6 1gig of ram (pc133 the old stuff) cd drive (do i need a dvd drive?) 200g hd i don't have a card yet, but was thinking of going with the Hauppauge - WinTV-PVR-250 just because they sell it a dell home where i have a credit, but i'm open to recomindations if there is something better is this good enought for mythtv? i was planning on using my xbox to route it to my tv (i learned about this place on the xboxmythtv forum ![]() also just to make sure i fully understand this, knoppmyth comes with linux? i just need to install knoppmyth and driver? thanks in advance, and sorry if these are dumb questions ![]() |

The above should work (assuming you have no hardware difficulties). You only need a DVD-ROM drive if you plan on watching or backing up your unencrypted DVDs. KnoppMyth is an entire Linux distro, which includes all you need to set up a set-top box. |

well assuming that everything is supported by linux in the kernel version that ships with knoppmyth all drivers should be included. The one place you may be in trouble are the onbard lan/audio/video stuff. Which we cannot know wihtout any more specifics. |

The system specs are no way near powerful enough for HDTV. |

you'll probably be ok with that the sis300 graphics are well supported, even work well for tvout if you install the binary SIS drivers. I'm not positive on the audio, but I believe that chip is supported, and my guess would be that the lan is s900, which is also supported. however you may have to battle the blink keyboard lights syndrome. the sis boards seem to be bad about that, but there are workarounds. |
