I'm trying to set my PVR250 up (it doesnt work straight off), however most of the docs I've found mention device 4009. I've got device 4001. Does anyone else have this? I'm assuming I'll have to recompile ivtv as it's not working at the moment. To start with, the ivtv module isn't loaded, after modprobe ivtv, test_ioctl -a gives lots of sparkly data, but test_ioctl -u=0x000000FF (change to PAL) fails.

Hello

The problem that your speaking of lies in the hardware. The Pvr-250 (401) is called a PVR-250 MCE. It is a newer model of the card and many people are using it. It you do a search on MCE there is quite a lot of info on this card. Basically you need to recompile to a newer version of the IVTV driver in order to get it to work correctly.

Good Luck

I've had a search arround, but the MCE version apparently doesn't come with a remote control (mine does).

Unfortunatly I just managed to get a kernel panic on my box, and I'm 30 miles away for the rest of the day. Very annoying

I see it might help to try and ID the card by the Conexant Chip CX... model number

Here is good link with pictures of PVR-250. There are quite a few different flavors....

http://www.shspvr.com/pvr_model.html

I still recommend recompiling IVTV and see if that helps you out.

Good Luck

I compiled 0.2.0-rc1a, and it seems to recognise everything. Remote works fine, loads automatically on boot, but cat /dev/video doesnt return anything.

I've also tried 0.1.10pre2-ck115i, same result.

tveeprom output:
Oct 14 22:26:52 leela kernel: tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 48015, rev = G535, serial# = 2680088
Oct 14 22:26:52 leela kernel: tveeprom: tuner = Temic 4066FY5 (idx = 35, type = 18)
Oct 14 22:26:52 leela kernel: tveeprom: tuner fmt = PAL(I) (eeprom = 0x10, v4l2 = 0x00000010)
Oct 14 22:26:52 leela kernel: tveeprom: audio_processor = MSP3415 (type = 6)

Any ideas? What are the latest drivers, there seem to be 3 branches (0.1, 0.2 and 0.3).

Couldn't spot my card on that page.

Should "tuner" be bound to ivtv when I lsmod?

Have you been able to identify the exact model of card yet?

I'm pretty certain it's a "Retail Boxed Hauppuage WinTV-PVR 250 revision 1 Conexant CX23415 chip with heatsinker.
(Notice the older design with the missing white feature connector)"

(Hauppauge PVR250, Rev1: Models 48xxx, S-Video connector only, comes with composite adapter, http://ivtv.writeme.ch/tiki-index.php?p ... edHardware states it's supported )

Model 48015 REV G535 PAL-I Tuner. Chip hidden under headsink. 480000-05A (C) 2002 in the top right corner.

Hope that's enough to ID it, I dont really want to take the heatsink off or start unsoldering things.

On the back there's a label with "41 02 2680088" on it.

Have you double checked that the right frequency set is selected in setup and that you've got it tuned to a real channel? Have you tried taking a signal from one of the other inputs like svideo?

Interesting so your card is an original PVR-250 and not MCE. I would think that IVTV should work straight out of the box and you would just have to config it for PAL.

You might want to look over to knoppmythwiki and see if that provides you a bit more insight into PAL specific changes.

http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/inde ... e=PalHowTo

Hope this helps

I reinstalled from scratch last night, blew away the partitions and everything. Booted up, installed the latest xmltv, configed it for pal followign those instructions

I now get cat: /dev/video: Input/output error after ~ 3.3 seconds. I'm guessing the SAA regs might be a problem (whatever they are)

Code:
ioctl: Input detect failed (cannot read SAA regs)
ioctl: Input detect failed (cannot read SAA regs)
ioctl: VIDEO_STATUS = Bad

SAA7115 reg[STATUS#1 - 0x1E] = 00
 Color Standard (D0-D1): BW/No color
White peak loop (D2): Not activated
Gain value for act.lum. (min) (D3): Not limited
Gain value for act.lum. (max) (D4): Not limited
 WIPA-mode slow-time constant (D5): Not activated
 Horizontal frequency (D6): Locked
 Field length (D7): Non-standard

SAA7115 reg[STATUS#2 - 0x1F] = 00
 Ready for capture (D0): No
 Macrovision 7.01 (D1): No
 MV Colorstripe burst (D2): No
MV Colorstripe burst type 3 (D3): No
Input signal timebase (D4): Non-stable (VCR)
 Field frequency (D5): 50Hz
 H & V loops (D6): Locked
 Interlace (D7): Not detected

edit:
I assume Saa7115 is the decoder ship, and the "regs" are registers on the chip.

To start

Can you please post the output of

lspci -v

and

/var/log/messages

That will give us a better understanding of your hardware to try and isolate the root cause of the problem. Clearly it doesn't work straight out of the box with the directions. The question now is the problem a hardware conflict...something with the computer ...or the card chipset wth the IVTV driver.

thanks

From the /var/log/messages you can very clearly see that IVTV is not loading correctly.

Here are the directions to recompile IVTV ....they work for me...

http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=2295

You can use these directions to test the various versions of IVTV found at

http://67.18.1.101/~ckennedy/ivtv/

However, if that does not work for you I would recommend contacting the IVTV developers and tell them about your card. It is possible that they my have to update the IVTV driver to support your version of the card.

http://ivtv.sourceforge.net/FAQ.html

It would be great if you could solve this problem and post the solution

Good Luck
