I have Myth running on an old computer with a PVR-250 as an initial experiment to see if I like it.

I am going to build up a new one using a microATX board with an nForce2 chipset. My buddy also wants to build one so I am getting 2 of everything.

I searched and didn't find any reason why or why not to use a Sempron instead of an AthlonXP for this purpose. Since the only difference seems to be reduced cache does that matter in a pvr application?

Any input appreciated.

It all depends on how you plan to decode the video as you play it. I'm not sure how much horsepower it takes to decode 480x480 or 720x480 in software, but I know the Sempron would not keep up with HDTV resolutions. (Neither would my Athlon XP 2500 or 2800).

Why not use a PVR-350 and decode in hardware? I can't really recommend XvMC on a GeForce card because it has too many problems to be useful. You're pretty much stuck with Xv and software decoding on GeForce at present. (Again, my experience is from the HDTV side, but the onscreen display seems to hang up for everyone who uses XvMC.)
