I am trying to replace the grey remote that came with my Hauppage PVR 250 with a universal remote, the One for all 6011/2 using the PVR's built in IR receiver. I found a post in the mythtv archives here: http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/mythtv/users/45561#45561, which uses the exact same remote. After replacing my lircd.conf in /etc and lircrc in ~./mythtv none of my remotes will work.

Anyone have any idea of what I can try to get the universal to work? I am using Knopmyth R4V5.

im pretty sure you cant rplace the remote that came with the Hauppauge unless you replace the receiver and recompile LIRC.. thats what i did, and it works great. The only exception is if you get a learning remote and learn the grey remotes keypresses

If you had read the thread he indicated you would see that some of the phillips and other brand vcr codes are in the same format as the hauppage and will work with it's receiver. I have heard several people having luck with this, although I have not ever tried it myself.

I attempted to use an RCA universal remote withthe hauppauge receiver. I tried using all of the phillips codes as well as codes that represent other remotes. I was trying to emulate a remote that has two sets of 'arrow' keys. one for navigation and one for volume/channel settings.

I got errors while running the program that captures the key stroke data

I did find posts that indicate that the reciever is incompatable with may remotes, I belive is has to do w/ the chip set in the receiver/250 board.

gr8nash, which reciever are you using? did you build it yourself?

Success!! I went on to fix other issues, came back and my universal worked!! Woohoo! Although the "menu" button doesn't work when 0081 is assigned to VCR, but does when assigned to DVD.

Originally, when booting up, Knoppimyth would recognize 32 tuner cards and try to load IVTV drivers fr them all. I took my one card out, and rebooted. Knoppimyth recognized no cards. I replaced my card in a different slot, and it booted up correctly recognizing only one card and worked fine.
