Post subject:  Getting a $10 captuer card working! :)

Hi all,

I bought a ~really~ cheap capture card and finally have it all working, but when I start MythTV (with mythfrontend), the audio comes on and stays on. I get an error message about the audio device /dev/dsp being in use by another program when I watch live tv.

After I exit Myth, the audio continues to play on the speakers. This doesn't seem to interfere with recording a show but I can't hear the audio when I play back a show because the current "live TV" is playing in the speakers.

Now some more hardware detail...

The card I got is bt848 based, an AI Tech WaveWatcher. It's for sale post is here if anyone wants a cheapo card http://www.softwareandstuff.com/crd_Aitechtvpci.html

I was able to get it working with this line in the /etc/modules

bttv card=27 audiomux=0

the audiomux line is what I added to get the audio working but I have no idea what audiomux is. :)

I'm running Knoppix 3.6 with the 2.4 kernel, no updates. Installed the latest/greatest Myth via apt-get

Any idea why the audio is getting flipped on when I start mythfrontend?

Thanks in advance...

you don't have line in muted. search the forums, this has been covered a couple of times, and it's also covered in the mythtv docs. line in has to be muted and set as the captur device.

I've give it a try...

fyi, I did search the forums... in fact I just searched again with keywords "sound mute line-in" and didn't see any relevant topics.

What keywords hit this thread?

Drop the "line-in" and make sure you select the "require all words" radio button.

not sure what to search for the posts where this has been discussed, but I know I've seen it more that 20 times over the last year, at any rate just about all everyone knows about audio problems can be found at http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-20.html#ss20.5
