HOWEVER
no IR-based remote solution will work between two rooms. the infrared light emitted by the LED has to have "line of sight" with the IR receiver in the set top box. in some cases the IR light will bounce off walls or ceilings but depending on this is not recommended. in most cases the mythtv PC and the set top box are very near each other, so the low power stick-on IR LED works just great.
rereading your question, i think that you may be worried that the output from IR LED will "leak" into the next room and change the channel on the 2nd receiver. this won't happen for the reason noted above and due to the fact that the "simple IR LED transmitter" has a range of about 3 feet [1 meter].

Thanks for the response, jim.
Actually, with our DISH set-up, the receiver really is in another room. In fact, it's about three rooms over. They gave us a UHF remote -- I believe, not completely positive if that's it -- and that is able to send signals to the box in the other room. You use it like any other remote, but the receiver picks up the signal with absolutely no issues in the other room. It's a dual tuner box, so the "first" tuner is set up for the host room, and then the "second" tuner goes to the living room, where I want to put my Myth box.
This is a common set-up for DISH set-top boxes, as far as I know, so I'm sure there's a solution out there somewhere.
Thanks again for any help.
