I have a generic PCI Nvidia MX440 (Jaton) video card and am trying to get the TV-out to work. Installed the latest NVidia linux drivers using the .run file. Video card works fine on a monitor, and when I plug the VGA into an AverKey VGA -> composite video converter X-Windows looks fine on the TV. The problem is when I connect either the S-Video or the Composite on the video card directly into the TV. Console (i.e. during bootup and/or in runlevel 1) works fine using either SVideo or Composite on Vid. Card -> TV. However, when I start X, there are some flickers, then on a black background there is some large (i.e. each letter is about 1/10th of the screen) faded text. After a couple of flickers (X trying to restart), i get white vertical lines going across the TV and the machine is pretty much locked.

The XFree log wasn't much help. The last part of it is posted below, as is my XF86Config-4. I tried the XF86Config-4.nvidia-tvout.sample version of XF86Config-4 but didn't work (same problem)

Sorry if this is a common problem; search didn't turn up much for me. Thanks for any help.

The problem maybe with X-Windows, I've seen it mentioned on the forum a few times, but have no idea what it is... KnoppMyth uses the X Window System. :) Why do you have two "Driver" directives in your XF86Config-4? I'd comment the one with trident.

Search the forum or the wiki and you should find the fix for the GLX problem.

Clues:
    - use the terms "nvidia" and "GLX"
    - look for a post by me
    - don't forget to select the radio button for "require all terms"
    - read the whole thread, there's an ugly hack and a corrected fix that lets you use GLX.

Your X server is not coming up because of this problem. After you fix it, you can try again and move on to more interesting problems. ;-)

Thanks mucho (and sorry I didn't catch that one in the archives). I relinked the nvidia library and the frontend came up. Beautiful. I am guessing that the more interesting problem you are referring to is that CTL-ALT-F1 'ing to the console gives me garbage on the screen. Is this the int10 issue referred to in the NVidia README file? If you have any further insight into how to fix it I won't stop you from letting me know 8)

Unless I can peep out how to fix the console issue, I may just run an xterm without a window manager on :1 or something. Anyway, I can live with the "imperfections" for now; I can always ssh in if I need to. Thanks again.

Actually I didn't have a specific "interesting" problem in mind just the almost inevitable "next thing" that needs to be fixed. ;-)
