Ok, i have been searching the forum for quite some time, and I am not able to get my box working. There have been numerous posts about it...

My problem is this.... when i go to watch/capture, all i see is snow. my channels are updated properly, i have sound, but i can't view tv.

I have updated the ivtv drivers, first to 106u, then tried 109, but that doesn't seem to work for me. I have vi'ed the ivtv config and changed the tuner type, but still getting snow... can someone offer any suggestions?

Thank you SO much!

1) Did you forget to provide details of your hardware?

2) Have you identified the exact model of the card? I seem to have lost my bookmark, but if you search the forum you should find reference to the page which has a "field guide" to PVR identification. (BTW - here's one, but there is a better one out there... http://htpcnews.com/main.php?id=pvr_card_id_guide)

3) What kind of messages are you getting in the log files? http://knoppmythwiki.homelinux.org/faq/index.php?action=artikel&cat=374472&id=29&artlang=en

You might want to try a different PCI slot. However, in general if you get sound and snow its usually more likely some sort of problem with the version of the IVTV driver that you are using.

As TJC points out it is really hard to help without very specific info about your hardware.

Try running

lspci -v

and post the results

Thanks... I will do that as soon as I get home...

My hardware specs (as detailed as I can be until I am back at the machine)
Celeron 850
256MB ram
Samsung CDRW
PVR-250
WD 120GB HD
Matrox Mystyque- soon to be replaced with Nvidia Geforce 440 w/tv out
Sb Live

I have sound in other Mythtv apps, but no sound from the tuner itself...

Lookng at the hardware I would recommend that you replace the Matrox card with a Nvidia card before you do anything else. The matrox card is old and support is difficult at best. On top of that you can get a used Nvidia card for a pretty good price. In general it is better to plan out your hardware before you go charging into installing knoppmyth. That will usually make the install much more manageable and keep you from having all sorts of trouble. Trust me on this one get a NVDIA card and then try the install.....

Hope this helps

You should not need to....
Code:
cp /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 /etc/X11/XF86Config-4.org
vi /etc/X11/XF86Config-4
You'll need to find the driver that it is using for your current card. Change this to "nv" and shutdown. Replace the card with the new one and p0wer up. Once the system is up
Code:
<CRTL><ALT><F1>
Log in as root.
Code:
/etc/init.d/gdm/stop
install-nv<TAB>
Tab completion is your friend.
If you have problems, you can
Code:
mythbackup
Reinstall using the Auto Upgrade option.

Actually when we ask for details we really want LOTS of details. See my signature block for example, and that's far less detailed than it could be because of the character limit on signatures. ;-)

Let's double check your identification... Did you look at the numbers on the chip (it's not a CX2341?-?? for example) and the external connectors on the card to make sure it's not an MCE or something? Does the white sticker on the tin box say 32032? What rev. does it say under that? What is the SAA chip rev.? saa7115? saa7114?

You STILL didn't tell us what the revisions on the chips and the board are!

The nice folks at Hauppauge and/or their suppliers keep changing components. When they do this it tends to break the drivers. Knowing which version (in detail!) of the card you've got makes it much easier to suggest what version of the ivtv drivers you should try next.

Like I said, when we ask for details, we mean DETAILS. ;-)

If you're really lucky someone else will pipe up and say, "Oh, I've got that version of the PVR 250 too, and I'm running xxxx yyyyy zzzzz."

I would recommend that you reinstall and then

Take a second and read this post it should help you through the problem
if the reinstall does not fix it first....
