I'm new to Linux. That translates to need all the help I can get. I have been running Debian on this box for a couple of weeks. With no problems. I wanted to setup mythtv on it. When I install KnoppMyth it fails on the "Use DHCP Broadcast" with "Eth0 operation failed"

I ran lspci and the card is there.

ifconfig only shows lo no eth0.

I thought KnoppMyth was a similar build to Debian, so why doesn't it recognize the NIC?

I would appreciate some help.

It will fail if it is not receiving a reply to it's DHCP Request over the network. Make sure it's plugged properly in to someting that can give it a DHCP reply.
*Edit* And I'm runnin on an LNE-100TX so i dont see why it wouldnt work

I was running Debian on the same box prior to installing knoppmyth. I don't have the linux knowledge to diagnose the problem with linux tools.

I don't believe it is my router as it is honoring DHCP requests from my other machines.

I don't believe it is the patch cord as I have tried 4 different ones.

I don't believe it is the NIC, BIOS or PCI bus because it was working previously under Debian and Win98 before that.

The above being said; I belive it is an issue with the driver. But I don't know enough about linux to test that belief.

Is there an util to tell me a) Is the OS seeing the card? and if so b) What driver(s) is it loading to use the card?

I tried running 'pump -i eth0' but it just timed out

I probably should have posted this the first time my LNE100TX is a v5.1 what version is your card?

I appreciate the help

Different kernel version perhaps? What module does that card use? Did you type netcardconfig?

I agree that it is a difference in the kernel version. I was hoping to be able to diagnose what that difference was. I ran netcardconfig both auto and manual a couple of times trying to get the card up, but nothing worked.

I employed the Linux universal fix...I replaced the hardware. With a different NIC the install completed fine. Now I'm off to figure out how to configure the PVR350.

Thanks for your assistance
