Post subject: | Backend Crashing |
Hi all, I'm having some issues with my setup at the moment, here's the rig: - AMD Athlon 1Ghz 640MB Ram Nvidia 3D Profit 256K (with svideo out) 8GB Segate HDD (for development environment) PVR-250 model 983 (PAL UK setup) I found that the PVR-250 card had a type 18 tuner in it. I have had lots of stability issues with the backend server crashing on me. Firstley I had the PVR card type set to 83 (as it couldn't be auto-detected), and the backend would crash regardless if i was watching live tv or recording for longer than 30sec. I then set the card type to 85 and was able to record for 2h's without issue, but while watching live tv the backend would crash after 3min (better than before). I also have issues playing getting the program guides and playing dvd's but i'll post about those once i get the system stable! Is this a config of the card or ivtv that is causing the crash?? here is an extract of /var/log/mythtv/mythbackend.log Code: Starting up as the master server.

You wouldn't by chance have a Via chipset on your motherboard would you? |

yes it's a QDI KinetiZ 7T board Datasheet http://www.qdigrp.com/qdisite/eng/products/K7T.htm north bridge:VIA KT-133 South bridge:VIA VT82C686A by you question i pesume that this is an issue! ![]() And if so is the resolution a software or hardware change? If it's a hardware change i might have to reconsider my final system setup. i was going to go down the road of and EPIA M10000???? |

search the forums for more info, but there is a known dma bug in the via 133/266 chipsets, and it shows itself with the pvr250 cards. There is no proven solution other than changing motherboard. You might want to do some research before you jump down the road of the epia as well. They have their own issues, however they are all correctable with some work. |

Don't count on replacing your motherboard to cure the problem. I replaced my via motherboard with the recommended nvidia board and still have similar problems. I found that replacing the OSD with isthmus helped more than replacing the motherboard, so you may want to try that first.
