Post subject:  hard drive speed

My hard drive, when measured with hdparm -Tt /dev/hda, does buffered reads at 12.86 MB/Sec. Is that fast enough to wath and record at the same time?

please don't just say megs as that really doesn't say much. I'm not sure of the requirements for hdtv, but a recording with default settings from a pvr250 needs about 2.5Mbps thats bits per second which is well under your 12MB/s megabytes per second. So you should be fine on NTSC.

From my best recollection ATSC(HDTV) at 1080i needs 19Mbps, so you should still be ok, of course you have to leave some room for head transistion etc. for the latency to be low enough, but I don't think you will have a problem.
