I've got a new system with a Sempron 2800+ in it, and when I watch video it's runs at about 5 FPS, but it's a very consistent speed it runs at.

Is there any tags that I need to set, or anything I might be missing? It's on a WinTV Go card which I know is good because It came from another of my Myth Boxes. It's my 5th box I've built but the first one I've used an AMD on so i'm not sure where to start.

my first guess would be that dma is not turned on, but you really didn't give us much to go on.

Sorry about that. It's a sempron 2800+ @ 2.0Ghz, the drive i'm using is a 30gig Maxtor, one of those slim series they have out now. I Checked to see if DMA was enabled as per the MythTV guide, and It says HDA is in DMA, everything else in PIO (I Dont have anything else though).

I Installed KnoppMyth again with the TV tag this time, and it runs considerable faster. Almost watchable, but defenatly noticeable. 'top' tells me that with the default settings of RTJpeg give about 20% idle time, and Mpeg-4 is about 10% free time. Seems a bit slow to me given the processor.

I Tried disabling deinterlacing alltogether, as it was the only performance booster I could think of, but the results werent that much better. I've tried on the 586 and 686 and both give similar results so far. Also, 'top' tells me that about 55% is going to Mythfrontend, 15% to another thread of Mythfrontend, and 15% or so the the Backend. Seems a bit high on the frontend side of things.

Also, I've tried 3 tuner cards, 2 ATI graphics cards, and one NVidia one. the machine has 512 Mb of 2700 also (that all I can think of that might make a difference) If you need anymore specifics just let me know. This box is for a friend so I'm desperatly trying to get this worked out ASAP.

not sure what to tell you, because I have an athlonXP 1700+ and it only runs about 50-60% proc utilization when using MPEG4 so something definately seems to be off. did you install the nvidia drivers when you were using the nvidia card?

I Just used the drivers that came with Knoppix, "nv" and "ati". That hasn't seemed to be a problem on any other systems that I can think of.

well if you are trying to do tvout it could be a big problem. or if you are trying to do dual head there can be problems as well, because xv will only run on one display.

Isn't "nv" the UNaccelerated driver? I thought you had to use "nvidia" (after downloading and installing) to get good Xv performance. But I could be wrong...

liv2cod your right. exit myth and hold down "ctrl" + "ALT" + F1 and it will take you to a login screen. Log in. Now type install-nvidia-6111.sh or something very similar . Use tab after you start typing it to have it finish it for you.. that will install the Nvidia drivers with XV. this is a big boost in proformance.. after it is installed make sure to use the XFree86-4 file sample in the /etc/X11/ folder.. there is a sample on that ends in TVout.. Either use that one.. or make your own with options from that file.
