Post subject:  Via Rhine Network not Detected...

First things first, I am new to linux so bare this in mind.

I have managed to get mythTV to run but I have no network support at the moment. It seems that my network adapter is not detected at startup so no DHCP stuff goes on. I have a via epia MII 12000 which I beleive uses the via rhine chipset.

Previously I had Damn Small Linux on the box and the network worked just fine.

Any ideas?

Finally - if I do get the network adapter working is there a web browser in Knoppmyth? I need to cut and paste some wget commands from somewhere else on this forum.

Thanks in advance.

no there is no browser by default. You can install firefox. DO NOT attempt to install knonqueror. I usually paste the wget commands via ssh seems much easier to me.

Post subject:  one more thing

I have tried netcardconfig but it reports no cards found.

I might add when I did the initial install I did not have a network card onboard. I am expecting this is the problem - is there any way to get the card installed post install?

Also - how do I get the config screens with IP address etc back? Previously when I booted into Knoppmyth I had to enter my su password and I got some extra config menus and then it would go from that to the main "user" menu.

Answered my own questions largely.

modconfig - allows you to add in modules such as network cards

mythtv-setup - gets you into the main setup screen of myth

I think they are the two things I used for those who might be in the same situation
