I finally got my system working, but I can't seem to resolve a problem with audio drop outs. I start watching live TV or recording a show and the audio is fine. Then during the course of the show the audio will get lower and lower, get garbled, and then stop. Sometimes it comes back, sometimes it does not.

I know that its a tuner/recording problem because when I play back the recorded program on another machine (my PowerBook running a Darwin port of Myth front end), I hear the same audio problems as on my KnoppMyth computer.

Any ideas? I tried various "buffer" options in MythTV setup GUI, but no success. The video records fine, nice quality and everything. Its just the audio that seems to "go away and come back"

never heard of a problem like this before. are you using a hardware encoding card or a software encoding card?

Lucky me I get to be the first! :(

I'm using a PVR-250 model 980, so its hardware encoding, and software decoding on a GeForce MX4000 (when on the MythTV PC, its a Radion on my PowerBook but that's not running KnoppMyth)

well if it's a pvr card, then the problem is a bad card, or bad signal. if the signal works fine pluged directly into a tv, then you have a bad pvr card, cause it mixes the sound into the video stream in hardware.

So driver software or driver configuration could not be causing this problem? If this is the case I hope its a bad signal since earlier I tried peeling off the label to find the rev number of the pvr-250 when I was having other problems and I doubt I could return it that way.

If you are considering adding a second PVR-250 tuner eventually and presently have a bad PVR-250 card, let me recommend that you purchase two identical PVR-250s at the same time to increase the likelihood that you get the same model.

I have a mixed PVR-250 old/new configuration and it about drove me nuts trying to get it to work properly. It did eventually work but only after much configuration tweaking, tuner setting, ivtv recompiling, late nights and swearing.

I regret not getting 2 identical of the older models because the upgrade would have been painless.

Just thought you'd like to know...

Thanks!

Sorry, false alarm. I am building this box in preparation for my switch from DirecTV to cable. Thus I am currently using my DirectTV system to mimic cable for testing. Long story short, the audio connector from the DirecTV unit to the RF modulator was not in all the way causing the problem. Since this was the only unit on that circuit, I didn't notice the problem elsewhere. It all works fine now.

Thanks again to everyone for all your help. Hopefully I can repay the service soon.
