I am currently trying to setup my system to change the channel on a SkyDigibox. I have followed the IRBlaster Howto, taking care to set it up for COM1 (the pc only has one com port). dmesg reports: ledxmit_dev: IR Remote Control driver registered, at major 72 ledxmit_serial: auto-detected active high receiver ledxmit_dev: ledxmit_register_plugin:sample_rate: 0 If I run: /usr/local/lirc-ledxmit/bin/ledxmit-irsend SEND_ONCE SkyDigital 1 There are no errors. If I look at ledxmitd.log: Jan 16 19:28:47 mythtv ledxmitd(serial) ready Jan 16 19:34:37 mythtv ledxmitd 0.7.0: accepted new client on /dev/ledxmitd Jan 16 19:34:37 mythtv ledxmitd 0.7.0: removed client So on the software side all looked good. I constructed the simple circuit using an normal LED. With the IR Blaster connected, I ran the shell script sugessted in the howto to make the LED Blink. The LED remained off. I tested the IRBlaster by connecting a 9V battery +ve to pin 4, -ve to pin 5, the LED lit, so can assume the IRBlaster is good. I don't suspect the PC's serial port as before installing KnoppMyth, I was running WinXP using a Creative CMIR 100 connected to the serial port to control PowerDVD via Girder software. I have been really impressed with KnoppMyth so far, and really want to use it, however, with out the IRBlaster working I stuck on one channel! The PC is a small form factor Shuttle SV25, it only has one PCI slot so I am unable to fit another COM port. I am a hardware engineer who has played with linux a number of years, but am still a bit of a begineer when it comes to stuff like this. I have looked on Google but have drawn a blank. Has anyone experianced similar prblems, can any one help? Any help is greatly appreciated. |

hi, i'm the author of the IR Blaster HOWTO at http://losdos.dyndns.org:8080/public/my ... HOWTO.html or mirror http://mirror.mmdsi.com/losdos.dyndns.o ... HOWTO.html let's see if we can get to the bottom of your issue... first, a couple of questions for you... i assume you are using KM R4V5, correct? were there ANY errors/anomolies/etc when you ran my scripts and configured your system? did ANYTHING not match up with what you expected after reading the HOWTO steps? please post the output of the following... $ cat /etc/modutils/lirc-ledxmit $ ps -ef | grep ledxmit $ ls -ls /dev/led* $ setserial /dev/ttyS0 $ setserial /dev/ttyS1 thanks, jim / wrooster |

Thank for geting back. I now believe the serial port is partially defective. Although it works with an IR Receiver, I think the lines needed for the IR Blaster are broken. For a test I loaded Knoppix from a CD and tried to connect to a Standard serial modem. No Luck. Your Howto was very good, like all technical stuff I had to read it several times, but when running through it, everything happened as you described. I don't believe Lirc is compatible with USB-Serial convereters so when I have more time, I am going to build the Parallel port Lirc hardware and try and see if I can get that to work!
