Post subject: | WINTV-GO PROBLEMS DURING INSTILLATION |
I recently installed Knoppmyth everything seems to work except the Hauppauge Wintv-go card. When I try to watch TV I see a green screen with static at the top. When I open a terminal window and run scantv the tuner doesn't find any stations. The Wintv card has a BT878 chip on it. My questions are (1) How do I find out the tuner type and update the settings. (2)Can I do it through the backend set up and if so how do I get into it. (3) Is there anything else i should check Thanks |

I'll answer your third question first: Perhaps a search of the forum. |

I searched the forum before I posted but didn't find anything that helped. It appears to me that I don't have the right card or tuner specified. The card is WINTV-GO with BT878 chip and the label on the tuner says LG TP18NSR13F . Now that I have knopmyth running, how do I check to see what card or tuner the system thinks is there and change it if it is not correct. I don't seem to be able to get into the back end set up program. Also, how do I find out if this card and tuner is supported. Thanks |

hmmm let me see I searched, and granted this one was about 8 items down on my second search so it took me all of 15 min. http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... auge+wintv |

OK I've been digging on this all weekend long trying to find some information. I understand how to get the card type, thats not the problem. How do I find the tuner= setting to use for the card. And don't tell me to try them all cause I don't know where to start and where to end. Basically the same problem as above, I've extracted the kernal and looked at the documentation and I can see I'm a card 10 for my BT878 with the Philips FI1236 MK6 tuner model. How do I find the association of the number to use with this tuner model? I've probably done a good 10 installs this past week, plus swapping out different physical tuner cards and configurations. I do like some of the answers I've found, but I can't say I understand them since no one really goes into any depth to explain anything. VR, Wakko |

Sorry late response. Been sick and frustrated with trying to get this working. Yes, I've tried Tuner=39, as well as 0 --> 20 before I gave up. Isn't there a list to check again for tuner= settings like CARDLIST for the card types? |

K then I'm missing something or looking in the wrong place. I've gone to /usr/src and extracted the linux-2.4.25-chw.tar.bz2 bunzip2 -dc linux-2.4.25-chw.tar.bz2 | tar xf - Looking in /usr/src/linux-2.4.25-chw/Documnetation/videon4linux/bttv/CARDLIST to find my card. grep -i hauppauge CARDLIST Here i can find my card type for the chipset that I have (card=10 for Hauppauge BT878). Now doing a less on CARDLIST, I don't see anything on Tuners... maybe I'm not looking in the right place. _______________________________ OK I'm seeing some new info in the Insmod-options file. Also explains the pll option which I wasn't sure about either... And I can see why you said 39 for pvr cards. Problem is the diagnostics tool from Hauppauge running on windows says the cards got a Philips FI1236 MK 2 tuner and I don't see anything in the CARDLIST associated with that. Whats a good way to determine what Mhz crystal is installed on the card for the pll setting? _______________________________ Ok some more info after googling for the Philips tuner and MythTV http://pvrhw.goldfish.org/tiki-index.ph ... TVCardList tuner.o type=0 - Temic PAL (4002 FH5) type=1 - Philips PAL_I (FI1246 and compatibles) type=2 - Philips NTSC (FI1236,FM1236 and compatibles) type=3 - Philips (SECAM+PAL_BG) (FI1216MF, FM1216MF, FR1216MF) |

OK some progress, I guess. Card=10 tuner=2 I can tune into channel 5&6, but they are in black and white. Every other channel is dead signal blue screen. Had sound, just didn't realize my speakers were off, DOH. Anyone got any idears? |

Ok screwing around is always good thing right? OK, changed card to 26 for the Hauupauge Webcam (BT878) with pll=2 and Tuner=2. During the MythTV setup I told it to use US-Cable-HRC, and now I have all the channels. Performance is dirt slow, but this system is very lowend: AMD 950 512MB Nvidia TNT 2 32MB WinTV Go SB Live Gamer 40GB drive Abit K7T-Raid |

Someone else recently reported a similar problem, only being able to tune those same two channels. You should be able to turn it up with a search. I think they may have been using the wrong frequency set. OBTW - go to your profile and set a location, even if it's just NTSC or PAL. If we knew you were in the North America for example we might even be able to suggest which other frequency sets to try... |

Location updated. Any suggestions on tweaking this system to maybe be usable? Right now I'm getting around 1-2 FPS just watching TV. Eventually going to be bumping this up quite a bit, but right now cash is short. |

While the Duron maybe powerful enough to function as a recorder, I don't think it is powerful enough for live tv. |

Not a Duron. Its a Athlon. Friend of mine who'd been using it already has a similar setup. Says its just enuogh to watch TV or record, but never enough to do both at the same time. He also informed me last night to update the Nvidia drivers using the "install-nvidia.sh", which I hadn't known about. When I have a chance tonight, I will try and hopefully my display rate will get better. |
