has anyone had any success with the Netgear FA311 10/100 NIC? I just got it, and tried it in my frontend and have had NO success... I believe I need to modprobe natsemi (national semiconductor) but it doesn't seem to do anything! another odd thing... if I put the card in a different computer (actually a much older computer, btw) the lights turn on right when the power is turned on... but the lights only flash for a second in the frontend and they never turn on after that...

after modprobing natsemi did you run netcardconfig?

ah, yes, I tried that and it worked at first... ya see if I have not done a modprobe natsemi then netcardconfig will just report that there are no network cards that it can configure... well, if I modprobe natsemi first then run netcardconfig it will just fail... oh, and I'm getting some errors when I try pump:


so anyway... it's just not working... BUT I have a good idea of what might be the problem... I don't think the card is working with the motherboard. I'm wondering if the card is even compatible with the motherboard... because like I said before I put the card in a different motherboard and the leds on the back lit up instantly when I turned it on and they stayed on... with the one in the frontend (what I'm trying to get working) they light up, then flash off real quick... I'll see what I can find in the bios...

well, I replaced the network card with a D-Link one and it works great =). But now I know the problem was slow processor not a lack of bandwidth that was causing choppy mpeg2 video... if I got a AMD 1GHz Athlon Thunderbird so you think that would be sufficient for mpeg2 decoding on a remote frontend?
