I need to get a hs/fan combo to replace the default PIV hs/fan combo cause it sounds like a vacuum. I saw one hs suggested on the boards here, but it's almost $100 and still requires a fan. If anyone knows of a cheaper combo that is quiet I'd love to hear about it. And if you don't think a good one can be had cheaper let me know. I'd rather not spend that much, but if it is needed to get a good one I will.

The Zalman CNPS7000 family is supposed to be one of the quietest at @ $40, but it's big. This isn't for your little tiny box is it? Arctic cooling also has a family of very quiet ones which are a lot smaller and less expensive at < $20.

I second the Zalman suggestion. If you have the same motherboard I do it should just fit. I used the Zalman fan that is for the 478 pin package but bought a little plastic adapter that allows it to be put on a socket 775 chip. Zalman now sells a fan for the LGA-775 socket. It's probably the same fan and adapter I bought at Fry's.

I don't think the case is going to be a factor, and yes I'm using the AS8 MB. I'll have a look at the zalman does that come with a fan or do you have to purchase one seperate? if so which one do you suggest?

Comes with a fan... Very interesting design it's actually built around the fan. Here is a picture...

I have one of these the all Cu variety. Very nice and fairly quiet, at least I can't hear it over the rest of the noisy system (nvidia card fan, PS fan, case fan, etc). Nice heatsink though...

I found that you need to clean this every once in a while as it filters dust and plugs up otherwise.

Thanks!
