Hello,
I was wondering if Epia boards will work with KnoppMyth? You have to compile for a different platform (see http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-5.html#ss5.1) since the C3 is missing some processor instruction. So another way to ask my question would be - what architecture is KnoppMyth compiled for?

Thanks!
Stefan

KnoppMyth uses the .debs which are compiled for the PentiumPro. It won't be until at least R5 where I'll have binaries for various CPU architectures. You could always install KnoppMyth remove Myth, get the source and recompile for i586.

I have not done this, but it should work. Sorry, but you'll be on your own. I say this because in a sense, you'll no longer be using KnoppMyth and I truly don't have time to answer unrelated issues. But, if you ask nicely and I know the answer, I'll try and help. There is plenty of info out there on how to install Myth. Check the installation docs:
http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-4.html
Look at the Debian section.

apt-get remove mythtv mythweb mythgallery mythmusic mythdvd

Get the source(or follow the directions in the docs) and edit settings.pro
change PREFIX to /usr and -march to i586
Then build away!

So i tried doing an #apt-get remove with all of the mythtv packages. This doesn't not seems to remove all remnants of them. A #whereis mythtv still revels a list of folders related to mythtv. I did the reinstall from the source packages anyway, and still get the 'illegal instruction'

Any suggestions? I'm new at this and appreciate any help.

Thanks

Hi All,
I too am using a Via M9000 board. I realise that Knoppmyth is not going work 'out of the box' for me but I installed it anyway just to get a feel for the project. I liked what I felt!
I am also a relative newbie at this having only ever compiled a driver for a webcam (I'm told that untill you have recompiled your kernel then you're nothing!). My machine is currently out of action, waiting for a good OS, so I don't mind completely shafting it in an attempt :)
It seems to me we have three options here:
1. Find someone with the experience / free time to recompile MythTV.
2. Learn how to do it ourselves (probably what we should be doing!)
3. Persuade lmatter over at minimyth (www.linpvr.org) to add a backend to his distribution.
Any thoughts?
Steve

this is the easiest and most effective way to get a working via c3 box. Some typos in the instructions, but overall very good. I am glad i finally came across this. http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4124

Enjoy.

Yes, that would work. Don't forget to change pentium3 to i586. Or you could use the i586 debs w/ R4! :D

Woo Hooo! :D
Installed R4 yesterday on my M9000. Selected i586, all went smoothly.
This is the first time I have manged to install (and run) MythTV.
Thankyou!
I should point out that I don't have a TV tuner at all which caused some intersting questions but hey it ran I put a CD in backed it up to the HD and played it, Hoorah!
Now if I can just sort out the crackly sound.......
