Post subject: | A few Questions... |
I have just gotten Knoppmyth up and running this past week. I have an Xp1800, MSI KT333, GF4 Ti4200, PVR-250, 250GB HDD, SB Live, DVD-/+RW drive. So far Ive got DVD video & Mp3 playback working. Stilll need to create mount for my camera and a few other loose ends but I have a few question That I havent figured out yet First i have generic wireless keyboard and mouse set that plugs into both PS/2 ports and all the arrow keys register twicee when i push a key. When using a regular keyboard or using this keyboard with mandrake I dont have this problem. Second, after I disabled overscan in XF86Config-4 file I caan see all of the screen but there is a flicker that isnt present other wise Lastly, how do I change my screen resolultion. It is currently set at 800x 600 but i would to bunp that up to 1024x 768 for native DVD playback. My video card supports it on TV out but I dont know how to change it. |

First of all, you will need to specify which color depth you want to use, in your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. Look for the line that looks like: Code: DefaultColorDepth 24 It will be in the 'Section "Screen"' block near the top. Now go down this list to the 'SubSection "Display"' block with a 'depth' number that matches your DefaultColorDepth number from above. You will probably see a listing along the lines of: Code: Modes "800x600" "640x480" "1024x768"
The first reslution listed is the default resolution. If "1024x768" is not listed, you can try forcing it by inserting it before the "800x600" resolution, and restarting X. (use the command '/etc/init.d/gdm restart') It is possible that the drivers you have installed for your video card do not support this resolution. In that case it will fall back to the next supported resolution you list on this line. If you get a display that looks like only part of the screen, you may need to edit the higher resolution out of the Modes line until you have drivers installed that support that resolution. X will happily start up with a virtual screen that is larger than the actual screen. I don't know if this affects video playback, but I know that you will end up missing content in things like MythWeather, MythMusic, etc. Good luck. -Rusty |

TIP: You can move through the resolutions listed by pressing left "ctrl" + "alt" + keypad "+" or "-" |

Gnarl, thanx for the tip much helpfull I now have nvidia drivers 6111 installed and installed nvidia settings which has pretty much fixed my flicker problem. I played with the XF86Config to change resolutions but all i seem to get is 800x600 and 640x480. I rember seeing some one mention a command or log that stated supported rez's I have to look arount for that. Still havent come up with anything to fix my key board issue yet. Thanx for all the help I am whitting away at all the idosyncracies (sp?) of knoopmyth and this will be awsome once every thing is ironed out. |

the file that shows what resolution x is running is /var/log/X<tab> actually I think it's Xfree.0.log, but I always just use tab completion. |
