Post subject: | TVIA 5202 Blue Screen |
Hello All! I have the R5A10 installed and up and running on a EDEN 800 Mhz based box. I originally used the default display driver and the video was dropping frames like crazy... And I wanted to use the video out on the MB, so I am attempting to use a CyberPro 5205 Chipset to drive my display. Therein lies the problem that I am having. The MythTV application comes up, and I can surf the web and watch the weather. Also, from an xterm, I can launch mplayer and the video is no longer dropping frames... I can see the video using mplayer through my TV out and my monitor at the same time. However, there is a problem. When I try to watch TV from within MythTV, I get a blank blue screen. I can exit it by hitting the ESC key. Oddly, there are no error messages in the log files (that I can find). It feels like a display driver problem, but I have searched for the last few hours for a newer driver (or alternative explanation) and I have come up short. So, does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance, Mike |

I hate to say this, but I would reinstall using R5A12 as it has support for the accelerated unicrome drivers and xvmc on the epia boards. Look under anouncements for R5A12. |

Same problem with the R5A12.... I go to a blue screen when I try to Watch TV from MythTV. When I go to mplayer and execute mplayer -vo help, I get a number of driver options presented. I do not see the TVIA driver in the list. Using player, I can watch TV using: xv, x11, dga, sdl, svga, & vesa drivers. fbdev, fbedv2, xover, gl, xvidix, and cvidix will not work. I seem to recall reading in another post that MythTV does not use mplayer when playing TV. Is this correct? What is the difference between what mplayer is doing and what MythTV is doing? Thanks, Mike |

that is correct mythtv does not use mplayer at all it's a new video player written from the ground up. so who knows what the differences could be. they are completely separate programs. Did you install the epia debs like the post indicates? |

Hey there.... I had not performed the epia updates. I installed them just now, and the good news is, I do not get a blue screen when trying to watch TV from Myth. The bad news is that I am getting a message "Unable to initialize video.". Any ideas? Should I break down and buy a nvidia MX440SE with SVIDEO out? (and reinstall everything once I get it?). Thanks, Mike |

what driver is in the XF86Config-4 file? I don't have an epia mb I'm just going on what I think I remember seeing. I belive it should be unichrome or something like that. Maybe someone who has actually used an epia will pipe in. |

Thanks... below is my XF86Config-4 file. I am using Identifier: "S3 Savage4 (generic)" with Driver "tvia" If I can not solve this... I saw that Tiger Direct (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications ... &CatId=877) is selling a 440MX for 19.99 after rebate... would that board work better? I wouldn't say it would work better. It might be easier to configure, but if you persevere and figure it out then others can use your config, and maybe we can make it easier on everyone that has epia boards for the next release. |

The question is does your system have the "Unichrome" chipset? If it doesn't modprobe via, change the driver in XF86Config-4 to via and restart GDM. |

Post subject: | Blue Screen issue on frontend |
I'm not sure this is exactly related to this post, since it was a couple of years back. I had the same issue with a blue screen when trying the frontend with my SIS chip on my P4 machine. It turned out that I had the resolution set too high for myth to be able to display properly. I believe it was set too 1600x1200, I lowered it to 1024x768 and the blue screen went away and I was able to watch video and recordings. Hope this helps. Jim |
