Post subject:  problems with 878 capture card and remote

Hello all. I have a problem. Myth came together great for me, but I have a problem with my remote:

I have a generic reference 878 card. Googling it tells me that it is a prolink. It has a little IR reciever that plugs into the card itself with what looks like a headphone jack.

I cannot get the remote to work to save my life. Under LIRC, I get errors, namely that it is the wrong driver installed or the like. It does this with EVERY driver I try.

After poking around a little, there appears to be some sort of native support in the bttv driver for the remotes, but I can't seem to get it to work. There are references to some sort of gpio file or something like that. I can't find this module.

Does anyone know how to get this remote going? I would prefer to use it since the purchase of the machine somewhat drained my finances.

Oh, here's my system:

RH9
BT878 card
Nvidia w/tv-out
1gb memory
4 400gb drives
1 Dual Layer DVD-+RW

Yeah, it's my file server too. Please help me out here. Thanks.

sounds like you need the lirc_gpio module instead of the i2c one that the hauppage uses and is compiled and installed by default.

means you will have to compile the module you need manually. you can search around the forums and look for it. basically look for stuff on the leadtek 2000 card, as it uses the lirc_gpio module also.

::teaser:: a future version will have a nice little script to set most of this up for you.

I see. Thanks. What about bttv and LIRC? I am using redhat...does this mean I have to compile bttv or LIRC again?

if you compiled lirc with any other module than the gpio module you will need to recompile it.

where is this option? I am in the config script for lirc but don't see gpio listed.

Oh, currently, there is no /proc/bus/input....

like I said if your tv card isn't listed use the leadtek 2000XP delux it also uses the gpio module.

I see. I ran .configure, but I cannot seem to find the leadtek driver anywhere. Where is it?

have you run the setup script that lets you choose what remote you have and determine what modules to build?

Yes. I am running the latest version of lirc. I looked under TV Card but that card is not there.

I just did it the other day and under tv card there were about 3 options for leadtek I used the winfast 2000xp delux I can't remember exactly what part of that is listed in the menu. I know you do not use the leadtek pvr option.

I used the winfast TV2000/XP one but this happened:

lircd 0.7.1: lircd(leadtek_0010) ready
lircd 0.7.1: accepted new client on /dev/lircd
lircd 0.7.1: could not get hardware features
lircd 0.7.1: this device driver does not support the new LIRC interface
lircd 0.7.1: major number of /dev/lirc is 4
lircd 0.7.1: LIRC major number is 61
lircd 0.7.1: check if /dev/lirc is a LIRC device
lircd 0.7.1: caught signal

well knowing nothing about your card I cannot guarantee that the lirc_gpio driver will support it, but if you compiled for the leadtek you should now at least have the lirc_gpio module at your disposal and that's what you said your searching turned up that you needed to use.

Yes. I am starting to think this is not going to work though. It is not working no matter what. I have a creative Infra Reciever....I can get that going. Any ideas as to how I can get it to read something besides "unknown signal"?

Oh, when I try to just install the gpio driver, I get LOTS of errors:

lirc_gpio.o: unresolved symbol bttv_get_gpio_queue
lirc_gpio.o: unresolved symbol lirc_unregister_plugin
lirc_gpio.o: unresolved symbol request_module
lirc_gpio.o: unresolved symbol bttv_get_cardinfo_R48320158
lirc_gpio.o: unresolved symbol bttv_write_gpio_R8ecf4acc
lirc_gpio.o: unresolved symbol lirc_register_plugin
lirc_gpio.o: unresolved symbol bttv_read_gpio_Rbcf2d2fb
lirc_gpio.o: unresolved symbol bttv_gpio_enable_R11dc4b6d

problem with the bttv driver?
