Hello all, I put the new in newbie when it comes to Knoppmyth. I have spent the past three weeks parusing the forum, what an awesome program.

I have exhausted every search, to no success, to find an answer to my question/problem.

I have a PVR 250, with the silver remote, and I am using the OEM IR receiver that came with the PVR 250.

It didn't work out of the box, but based on what I read, I didn't expect it too.

I looked at the IR codes that can be downloaded, tried them, and I also learned them directly using "irrecord". When I opened the learned file, I noticed that the some of the codes were the same for two different buttons. They were all quirky, for example, the code in a posting I found in this forum has all 0x00000000000017** codes. A few of mine are 0x0000000000001F**.

I thought it could be interference from sunlight or low batteries, so i put in fresh batteries and shielded the receiver and remote from light at close range. Same problem.

Here is the funny thing, some of the codes work, i.e. buttons 2, 4, 8, 6. Some buttons work, but do the wrong thing, i.e. push button ch+, ch- operates.

I checked it out in "irw" some of the buttons were right, some were backwards, some gave no response.

I also manually entered the IR codes, that someone else claims to have working with the beloved silver remote. Checked again in "irw", no luck.

I am such a newbie, and installing is so easy, i reinstalled knoppmyth and started over. Exact same results.

Ten hours into this one problem. My head hurts.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? I can imagine it is something simple. Again I really appreciate what is posted here on this forum, I wouldn't have gotten this far otherwise.

Ok, I got it to work. I did some reading on the lirc website, it pushed me in the right direction. I did a "apt-get install lirc". I followed the menus and instructions in the lirc website. I don't know enough about what I did to understand what fixed the problem, but when I do, I will contribute.
