This is the first attempt at getting Mythtv to work. I've installed knoppmyth a couple times as I keep thinking I've messed up one setting or another. When choosing cards during setup, should I be selecting the PVR 250/350 cards or something different. After installation, when I try to watch live tv, I get just a black screen and then mythtv crashes.

At this time, I'm just trying to watch tv through my computer monitor and NOT hooked up to a tv at all.

pvr500 is ultra bleeding edge. R5A12 does not have a new enough ivtv driver to support it. You need to go download the absolute latest beta development level ivtv driver to maybe possibly get pvr500 support.

Thanks, that's kinda what I figured. I'll just compile everything from source. Was kinda hoping for the easy way.

Maybe the next release.

The just "released" development ivtv-0.3.2p *might* be workable, though I need to follow up on the ivtv/myth lists to see what others have found. It might still 'sorta work' like ivtv-0.3.2o did for some folks (e.g. not stably).

Having read that the ivtv/blackbird/150/500/etc issue was being worked on and there were some minor successes in the past week or so, I went ahead and ordered a PVR-500. It arrived today. Might get a chance to check it out tonight, if I'm not otherwise preoccupied with playing DVDs on the new projector. Otherwise, perhaps in a couple weeks when I'm back in town (and more bugs have been shaken out of the ivtv support).

Also, I seem to recall that it was planned to release KnoppMyth with odd-numbered ivtv releases (which are development branch). I may be wrong?

it is not planned to release knoppmyth with the development branch of ivtv, cesman has stated he won't release with any cvs or development branch code mythtv or ivtv. Of course change is a constant, but we'd like knoppmyth releases to be as stable as possible so for now that will mean you'll have to compile your own ivtv for the pvr150/500, but ivtv compile is dead simple.

Sorry Xsecrets, I really did mean to say "not planned". Serves me right posting during the middle of boring conference calls. :(

Well, I can only recommend the pvr-350 because I know it works. It will be a crap-shoot for you on the pvr-500 until the drivers are set (hopefully, they can be at least as good as what is available right now on the pvr-350). The thought of dual tuners is appealing, though, especially since my mythtv box is a shuttle system with only 1 pci slot. Tough choices...

Good luck!

If you want to keep your hair, my current recommendation is to hold off on purchasing a pvr-500 for another week or two, but keep up to date on the ivtv developer's list here:

http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/ivtv/devel/

From what I see, it appears chris & company are closing in with the 0.3.2q release, but it might still be a bit bumpy...

I've been reading here, there as well as doing some googling and am putting together a strategy myself, but may not have time to actually try it out until I return from work travel next weekend.

Looks like they backported support for the 150/500 cards into ivtv-0.2.0-rc3j.tgz from the unstable branch.

I'm getting my hardware (PVR-500) for my PVR by this Friday and I'll be installing R5A15, I'll post back my results.

Any chance on getting this updated for R5A15.1?
