here's a strange question. i'd love to spend as little money as possible and I know very little about linux. so here's the question. i have an older macintosh G4 which I think will run linux. is there any way with a suitable video card that i can just use the hardware on my mac?

i'm poised to just buy an ASUS pundit because i've heard such great things about it so far. I'll probably just go that route, but if i can save myself $200 or more, i'll do it.

Knoppmyth wasn't compiled for the powerpc architecture. Also, as far as I know, there are no powerpc drivers for capture cards on that architecture.

Regardless of how old the G4, it should be able to run Panther, which means it can run the frontend:

Well, that says at least an 800MHz G4. I can run the frontend on my G3, but it can't playback video I've recorded.

Note, it's just a remote frontend... you'd still need capture cards, etc, on a PC-based backend.
