Post subject: | e1000 driver broken? |
I installed R5A15.1 and I am using a Intel Pro/1000 gigabit nic. It worked fine with R4A5 but in the new release the nic will drop after a random amount of time. when I restart /etc/init.d/networking it will come back but then drop again. I am using the e1000 module that came with R5A15.1. So does anyone know if this module is broken or somthing? |

Did you mean e100? As far as I can tell (and that's not very far) there is no e1000 drivers in R5A15.1 They have the e100, but not the e1000. I also have an Intel 82547EI chip on my Asus Mother board (P4C800-E) My problem is that the network is only getting enabled as a 10MB, not a 100 MB link that I have. I grabbed the drivers from Intel's site: http://tinyurl.com/d7qce And followed the instructions for building and installing (doing the modprobe). If I do an lsprobe, the module shows that it is loaded. I've tried adding an alias to my /etc/modules.d/alias of: alias eth0 e1000 and rebooted, but that didn't help. And if I follow the instructions in: http://mysettopbox.tv/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=4554 and run netcardconfig and select yes to the first question (Use DHCP) then I can get it up to 100MB, temporarily. But a reboot will put it back to 10MB. Hope this helps. Peter |

And now I've rebooted, halted, restarted, and it comes back at 100MB. Now to hunt down a Gigabit Switch................. |

My bad. It does look like the e1000 is shipped in this version of KnoppMyth. at least it is in the kernel sourcecode. I'm back to where I started: Stuck at 10MB. Are there any diagnostics or network configuration tools that I can run? netcardconfig doesn't seem to get me back to 100MB anymore. If I grep my /var/log/messages for e1000, I get: May 25 13:53:06 mythme kernel: e1000: eth0: e1000_probe: Intel(R) PRO/1000 Network Connection May 25 13:53:06 mythme kernel: e1000: eth0: e1000_watchdog: NIC Link is Up 10 Mbps Full Duplex Any ideas? |

I ended up installing the drivers from the intel site and that fixed it. I think the included ones could be some kind of wierd. Oh and I am running a 1gb "Sep 23 21:57:28 mythtv kernel: e1000: eth0: e1000_watchdog: NIC Link is Up 1000 Mbps Full Duplex" ![]() |
