I've had a hard time getting my happpauge r808 going since upgrading to a15.1.. I've tried all the tricks posting in the forums, with no joy. so I just decided to blindy go and grab the latest lirc (.7.1) and make it from stratch (make install..) Everthing went swell, expect I still have no joy.. Looking at my Dmesg i have cx2388x v4l2 driver version 0.0.4 loaded lirc_i2c: chip found @ 0x18 (Hauppauge IR) ivtv: i2c attach [client=Hauppauge IR,ok] lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin: sample_rate: 10 lirc_dev: lirc_register_plugin: cannot run poll thread for minor = -1 Which seems to be okay, except for that last line.. As well, in syslog i have May 13 19:14:58 mythbox lircd-0.7.1[5338]: lircd(hauppauge) ready Which seems to me, it's ok.. However, When I restart myth, i still have no job.. my lircd.conf and .lircrc are untouched since the upgrade.. Any ideas? Is it possible that the old prelirc7.1 is being called on bootup instead of 7.1? I thought the only place that calls the deamon was bootmisc.sh Any ideas or hints would be appreciated.. Ian |

Not to be a twerp, but is lircd running? Code: ps -ef | grep lircd If it's not, then run: Code: /etc/init.d/lircd start If that does the trick, I'd get rid of all of that bootmisc stuff and run: Code: update-rc.d lircd defaults
Hope that helps. |

Also, have you tried the nice lirc setup script to setup the right configuration? Code: /usr/local/bin/lirc-reconfig.sh

Post subject: | LIRC - Fixed! / High Memory Issues? |
Actually, it sort of was /etc/init.d/lircd.. After I installed a fresh copy of LIRC, i had to update /etc/init.d/lircd with /usr/local/sbin from /usr/sbin. I had changed it when I was reading a different forum tricks. Thanks for the tips! However, Now that that is working, I'm having tv playback problems.. It's another case of "it was work in R12".. I recorded the hockey game today, and at various points throughout the game, the playback "burped" and skipped forward 1-2 secs. I was wondering if it was a resource issue, but I have 512 MB of ram. When running "free" It seems to say i have 5 MB or so free.. I searched around the forums a bit, and there doesn't seem to be alot of info on it. free -m -t total used free shared buffers cached Mem: 501 496 5 0 32 123 -/+ buffers/cache: 340 161 Swap: 847 0 846 Total: 1349 497 851 the two biggest memory suckers seem to be root 5515 1.3 18.9 101044 97184 ? SL May14 14:00 /usr/X11R6/bin/X :0 -audit 0 -aut and mythtv 5589 6.4 15.9 206932 82232 ? SLsl May14 68:40 mythfrontend Anybody with any suggestions? Thanks |

A few days ago I downloaded the R5A15 version and installed it this past Sat. night. I'm using a PVR-250 with the new remote (it has the 4 colored buttons at the bottom). After installing R5A15 I noticed that the nvidia driver and LIRC had not been installed automatically (which is the type of installation I used). After installing them both, my PVR-250 remote still wouldn't work. I found a thread here in the forums and used a posted lircd.conf and lircrc file. I placed them in the appropriate places but still no go. Before installing the standard LIRC, I followed the guide used to install a second instance of LIRC to control my DTV reciever. So I installed it before the standard version. I'm not sure if that caused a problem but I don't think it did. Both instances appear to be running and when I try irw, no response. I know the remote works because I first installed Mythtv with Fedora but ran into numerous problems with LIRC and my irBlaster so I thought I'd give KnoppMyth a try. (I could kick myself for not using KnoppMyth first!) What's my best course of action? Thanks, |

Post subject: | Files missing |
I am running a fresh install of R5A15.1. Hardware is a Chaintech 7NIF2 and a WinTV-PVR-250. I have done some research on this and seem to be alone in this problem: I ps -ef | grep lircd and was taken to the next line with no information presented. I assumed that this is a bad thing. I then tried to start lircd by entering /etc/init.d/lircd start and received the following message: No such file or directory. A quick ls proved that the computer wasn't lying there is no such file in that directory. I tried adding the following to /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh on seperate occassions: 1. /usr/local/sbin/lircd 2. echo /usr/local/sbin/lircd and the one that worked for me in the past: 3. modprobe lirc_i2c /usr/local/sbin/lircd None of these worked. Do I need to install /etc/init.d/lircd to get my remote working? Is there a way to install it without having to fresh install R5A15.1??? What can I do? Michael |

I have a Chaintech 7NIF2 and a WinTV-PVR-250 as well. I installed R5A15.1 and have the same problem. I have tried some of the tips but nothing works so far. Greg |

Greg, Sadly I have continued to experiment and am stuck using the BIG remote (keyboard). Hopefully I can figure something out. If you find anything, keep me informed. Michael |
