Post subject: | Live TV Problems |
I've searched around the forums but no luck with my problem. I've got Knoppmyth installed and everything is running fine on mythtv with the exception of the Live TV. I've tried us-cable and us-cable-hrc, neither worked and I was left with the static. I've got an ATI TV Wonder VE I was thinking that the problem may lie in the Card Type setting under Capture Card Setup, I just left it at the default "Standard V4L capture card", I don't no if that is correct or not. I'm running knoppmyth on: Intel Celeron 1.3GHz 256MB of RAM ATI TV Wonder VE Any assistance would be appreciated. |

Ok I just tried recording something and it worked, no audio problem, no choppy video, it's still in black and white though and the channels are one off. |

At a guess you don't have the right tuner type or frequency set, since being mistuned accounts for both of these symptoms... |

I think the frequency might be right because when I tried Cable-us-hrc nothing at came up, but I might as well try again. I'll also try the tuner type but what type should I set it to? EDIT: I just changed the frequency and it the same thing, so I'm assuming that it's the card type because would the picture change or not come up at all if it was the wrong frequency? |

Well black and white and "off by one" both indicate that whatever the software is telling the card isn't resulting in the right frequency being tuned. This most likely means it's giving the cards bad commands (unless the card is just borked). From the software side the most likely causes are good encoding with the wrong data (wrong channel to frequency mappings), and badly encoded commands because it either doesn't quite know what do do that particular tuner or thinks it's a different tuner. |

those are both also issues if you don't have the tuner type set right. you really should find the CARDLIST and find the card and tuner # for your card and put them in the /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv file If you have and questions about how to do this just search it's been covered many times. |

If the frequency was off, wouldn't that mean that when I recorded something it would as well be choppy? I've tried both frequencys and I get the same thing, choppy picture. |

Xsecrets I've searched around the boards and wasn't able to find much as to what you've suggested, can you try and lead me in the right direction. |

well I'm not sure what the specs on your card are, but you'll need to edit the /etc/mythtv/modules/bttv file to have the correct stuff in it. For instance My leadtek has a line similar to the following options bttv card=34 tuner=2 of course those options are for the leadtek card you will need to find the appropriate options for your card. the card type can be found in the CARDLIST file. I know this file is in the bttv source or you can google for it. I believe it is somewhere on a default install, just not sure where. you'll have to look around for it. as for the tuner all of the tuners are listed in that file, but you will have to search here or google to find out which tuner your card uses. |

When I type that it, to get to that file, it repeats the name and says premission denied. |

you have to edit that file as root, and you don't just type a filename to edit it you have to use an editor. for editing files see http://knoppmythwiki.org/faq/index.php? ... light=edit many people forget about the FAQ. |

Ok i've got everything setup in the /bttv file, now I go and save it, and it says that Premission was denied. Am I missing something? |

did you become root like I told you to before you edited the file? |
